I disagree with Markkanen, because at least here, too many clueless posters think he can't play defense, because its stereotype I guess, he is white Euro big who shoots 3s. But in reality he is excellent forward defender, I would say he is underrated if anything, but maybe I am proving Rockazoids point...

Markkanen excellent forward defender?
His resume
1 times All Star
0 All Defensive Team
0 times All NBA
Only been on a winning team once in his career (CLE 21-22)
Puts up points on losing teams(Empty Calories)
People think he worth 3 to 4 1st
Yeah he's overrated

Yes, hes been on bad teams, I know. Why does that make him empty calories? And yes, his defense is very good. This is exactly what I am talking about, guy is underrated if anything, dudes look at his archetype rather than what he is, he is very good two way player. The critizism on him is that most of his baskets are assisted and he is not shot creator for others, he is simply finisher. And most poeple do not even think he is worth 3 or 4 firsts, most fans think AInges asking price for him is crazy, which it isn't even, compared what guys like Mitchell, Gobert, Bridges got.

He's Top 21 in salary and will be making $42 M next year. That's 30% of the cap for a guy you can't build around and will have to
hope to get a star to play with. We will see what star will force his way to play with him.

Acknowledging that overrated says more about public perception than player ability and doesn’t mean bad, I’ll go with Anthony Edwards. He’s starting to get treated like a superstar but his efficiency and playmaking aren’t at that level yet. He’s ranked as a top 10 player here and I would guess broadly, but I think he’s more in a tier with Booker and Mitchell than clearly above them. I think Ant’s perception benefits from the elite defensive ecosystem he plays in and a general desperation for the next great American superstar. He’s great, and will likely get even better, but IMO a tad overrated at the moment

The Tatum hate still is weird.

KAT. He's a solid player, worthy of his AS status, but his IQ and situational awareness is really bad. I would pick so many players behind him in ranking to play a Game 7. I honestly can't think of another star on a championship level team that has a Ricky Davis level feel for the game.

Jaren Jackson JR. I like the idea of him more than what I usually see when I watch him play. A lot of people like this guy, and he's gotten star level hype. I honestly think he is just a similar level player as Myles Turner, who has actually been a sneaky good scorer and improved rebounder these last 3 years. Either Turner is vastly under rated, or JJJ is over rated.

Every player in the NBA shorter than 6'3-6'4. Looking back at all the title teams, true contending teams, and what the Celtics just did, it really does seem like it's impossible to win with a PG as your best player outside of Steph. Hunting mismatches seems to be the new thing, and is only going to get worse.

Currently it's Anthony Edwards. Great player, but he's being compared to Jordan and some people call him the future face of the league, I just don't see it.

So the guy who has made multiple first NBA teams, and just lead his NBA Championship team in scoring, rebounding, and assists during the entire playoffs is overrated???? Wow, you guys must think that Tatum is capable of scoring 80 points a game / 20 rebounds a game, and at least 15 assists a game to think he's overrated.

Steph doesnt play a traditional PG role, more like a 2 anyway

But yeah, a classic small guard PG is a challenge as your best player for various reasona.s.

I'll be honest. I don't believe in him yet, but I'm also wanting him to prove me wrong.

I hope to eat crow next season. I want there to be legit franchise talent in the league.
I just only see it among international players and older American players right now.
ANT is emerging, of course.

I see Brunson as another Isiah Thomas that has a couple of great seasons and then declines.
Once again, I hope that I'm wrong. It's just very hard as a little guy to maintain a superstar status in this league,
unless you have some physicality, an all around game, or ridiculous consistency.
:o LeBron is 0-7 in game winning/tying FGs in the finals. And is 20/116 or 17% in game winning/tying FGs in the 4th/OT for his career. That's historically bad :o

Currently? Lebron. Refs obviously favor him and the Lakers for ratings. It is an entertainment league first.

Currently right here right now I think it’s Curry. He is one of the all time greats but no longer at the top of his game. At age 36 he is visibly just not quite what he was and I think the drop off though subtle really shows on his D . He is no longer a top 10 guy and advanced stats back that up.

Can make that argument for sure. He is no longer a top 10 guy but gets treated like number 1

Tatum seems properly rated to me. He’s been 1st team all NBA 3 years running, too 6 in MVP votes. Too 10 in advanced impact stats for those years, has been the best player on a team that perennial makes deep playoff runs. He seems to be generally rated by fans and media as between 5-10 which seems about right.

Well this is kind of a tricky one. First related to being overrated it's kind of a fluent thing. A lot of times it's an exciting young player on a good team that kinda get's exposed during a playoff series or after playing for a contenting team the first time. Interestingly a lot of players then quickly turn from being overrated to being underrated.

Additionally overrated is very often also related to the fan base. MJ, Lebron and Kobe are in some sense probably the most overrated players of all time if you are considering their very vocal Stan fans.

If I'd go with RealGM or let's say generally fans that have more than casual knowledge I'd have to go with Isiah Hartenstein and Alex Caruso. Both great players I'm a big fan of and would love on the Knicks this season, but atm I feel their contributions get overvalued at the moment.
