He kinda tried to be the glue guy, taking the playmaking role, had like 12 assists at one game late in the season, played solid D, and we saw how that ended. Jones makes him even less important on offense and he surely will not suddenly become a defensive stopper. On this team his best role is really a 6th man, instant offense player, though as pointed out by others it will take an injury or really bad results(unlikely) to get there.
