Draft I give a B I like the Walter pick and I’m intrigued by mogbo and shead. Chomche is who I wanted at 31 so I’m excited too see what he can turn into. Also going from 2-4 picks was a nice surprise

FA/Trades I’ll include as one seeing as we opted to be over the cap by picking up BBs option. I’ll give them a C+. I like the Jalen Mcdaniels trade as I was hopeful for him last year then terribly disappointed. Getting a backup guard that can play defence and showed some improvement last year is also something to look forward to plus the 2 extra picks was awesome. I like the Bruno Signing I think he will be a solid backup for Jak and could also show some improvement next year. The one thing I would’ve like would’ve been a BB trade being done before the start of the season which can still happen and even if it doesn’t then if they get something at the deadline I’m all good on that.

So my overall grade would be a B- with room to improve to a B if there is a BB trade before the start of the season.

B,

Taking care of business with Barnes and IQ on long term deals is the biggest win because the last few seasons have been dominated with the whole "will FA X re-sign in July" so stability is nice (assuming you like the core which I don't mind)

The draft was interesting, worst draft class in a while and we ended up with four picks in it but the guys we took seem to be functional? Masai has usually been a wizard at drafting lets see what these guys look like as the season progresses but all and all I like what I have seen so far.

The McDaniels trade, Wow.

My issues are largely around the fact that I don't love the idea of Scottie at the four full time, while I understand an entire core cannot be assembled over the course of an offseason I feel like that was a miss. Then Brown and Boucher, I get maintaining contracts to stay close to the tax line but I guess in my mind when we exercised the option with Brown I assumed there was something already in place? Its a time will tell move?

An A just for Chomche, that kid is gonna be a good one. Mogbo is another intriguing prospect, he will be in the rotation because of his versatility as a frontcourt player. The haul we got McDaniel is out of left field, that alone seals the deal for me this offseason, solid B+ with A+ if we can trade Brown in the season for a few draft picks and young players.

I'd go B or B-. As others have said, moving Brown would make it better, and moving him to a pretender for their 1st round pick in 2025 would be a home-run. Our current roster could be a tank, but if all of Scottie, RJ, and IQ improve they could keep us in the play-in, which I'm not opposed to. The trick is figuring out which team thinks they are a contender but could quickly become a lottery team with a couple of key injuries. I'm thinking Lakers, Memphis, NOP? (And of course they have to want a Brown bad enough to make the trade) Crystal ball needed...

Sign Koloko to a favourable contract and it’s an ‘A’ from me.

I upvoted until I saw that "/s"

Good point. I didn't mean it that way but I'll remember that next time.

My betting service has Raps season win total at 30.5. That would be 10th in East, 8th worst overall. I'm sure other lines are in similar range.

I vote B+.

This season is going to be painful, but at least there is moderate-to-high upside and the players are likeable. I think they drafted good NBA players, but still need an all-star caliber scorer in the 2025 draft. Even if they +/- 3 or 4 wins versus last year, there are enough narratives to make this team worth watching.

I'm quite excited to see a full season of Barnes, Quickley, and Barrett - I think they will pleasantly surprise a lot of people, and along with another year of development with Gradey, we could see glimpses of a core that becomes a perennial #4-5 seed in the East.

Yup we’re the rockets 2 years ago.

Also, I have no idea why people are still sleeping on rj.

He’s already in the midst of a major breakout.

I'm surprised how many people are giving credit for signing Scottie to the max and giving IQ (an RFA) the absolute high side of any projection.

Literally every front office can do that. That's not something that should even be discussed IMO. Now what Houston is doing with Jalen Green and Sengun is actually interesting, and could pay off relative to how other front offices operate.

It's another develop year and we have a young roster, what else were people expecting?

Barnes doesn't want to play with trash teammates, which means a complete teardown was never in the cards to begin with.

"How are you going to tell a champion to tank?"

Yeah, sometimes listening to what the players want isn't exactly the smartest idea. Children don't want to eat their vegetables either, better let em eat all the candy they want.

People have expectations of moving Brown and when it doesn't happen on cue there is a downgrade of the assessment of our offseason. He may well go with Boucher at the deadline as in 35 mil expiring money and playoff troops. Maybe we get a two for one in a young prospect a salary filler and our favourite pick the second rounder. Calling it now teams will want expirings at this year's deadline. What with 2nd aprons and the like.

And often not listening to them will seal your fate. It's a constant negotiation.

You have to try and get better with what you have. If by March the season is lost then you have that conversation but if you're still playing for something then you don't willfully torpedo the season.

Not listening to players is entirely dependent on their talent level. You listen to a player like LBJ, MJ, etc. You don't listen to a player (to a degree) like Siakam/Ingram etc.

Scottie is young, he's under heavy contract control, and he doesn't have clout in the league. You don't bend over backwards for that, if it's better for the team as a whole. No player wants trash teammates, the purpose of the temporary tank is to get him those good teammates.

And top calling it a complete teardown, no one on this board except for a couple super fringe posters have called for that. People want to take a step or two back in 25/26, that's it.
