CHA/POR
Robert Williams for Cody Martin, 2025 NOLA 2nd
Two perpetually injured players on teams with way too many other players at their position.
Charlotte gets the better player on a bigger contract in hopes that he can fill in the C minutes Mark either doesn't or can't play. There's still a 3rd string level center in Richards on the roster if he can't play. Martin serves no purpose to Charlotte even when healthy, with the Josh Green addition, and would either be the 4th SG or 3rd SF on the roster.
Portland gets a 2nd and cap savings for Time Lord's 2-year deal. This increases their gap from the luxury tax by $4M+ this year, and saves all $13M+ next year. Portland brings their count of serviceable bigs down to 3- Ayton, Clingan, and Reath... and in the event that Martin actually is able to stay on the court, he could provide some spot minutes of defense next to the offense-heavy guards the Blazers currently have. Martin's 2025-26 money is fully unguaranteed, so he is effectively expiring.

This is a no-brainer for Portland. They save money this year and next year and they get a 2nd from a team who is middle of the pack in a loaded Western Conference.

Works for me unless there’s a better offer out there for RW.

I was hoping and expecting this to be one of the first replies. You did not disappoint. Jroy have it all.

Re: CHA/POR
This seems like a no brainer for Charlotte especially if we keep Richards as the 3rd insurance big.

Its not my money - so I would rather get RWIII on the floor and see if he can be flipped at the DL for a protected FRP.

I don't believe any team would pay that price. And it's unlikely he'll be healthy 50 games into the season. A 2nd round pick in the 30-40 range; 16M in salary and cap savings; and thinning the logjam at C is about as good as value as Portland can expect

Dont come in here with logic.
But yes, you are almost certainly right. I would still wait and see. I also dont think CHA would do this until RWIII plays and shows health. I cant see a team trading for him during the offseason.
If this is the best we can get at the DL - go for it. I would hope we can flip Cody into cap space of a TPE or something though.

I wouldnt get my hopes up that Josh Green beats out Martin for minutes. The former is basketball brain dead when it comes to the IQ department

My expectations aren't high, preferably shoot better than Martin's career averages of 44/31/65 and he can go more than 10 games without his knee flaring up for another season

Most likely any team wanting to trade for Williams is going to wait for the trade deadline
If he's actually playing and doing well, the reward for Portland will be better and Portland just dumped their high
SRP for no immediate gain.
