Kid put on some muscle, you see it in his back, shoulders, and legs.
I think people really underestimate his potential. I definitely see a guy who can drop 20 PPG on a nightly basis in his prime (if he keeps developing).
He's really filling out well. We noticed last year how many times he would get bumped off balance on drives/layups. Putting on some weight will help in that regard and also allow him to bump his defender to make space.
And he showed a few times offensively, almost bully balling some guys that he won't be afraid to use that bulk. The good news is that the bulk is lean bulk, as he plays hard and will need to play hard to be effective defensively. Also, he's very coordinated athletically. Might not be the most explosive or fastest, although I'd rank him average in those categories, but he sure does have great coordination, body control and touch.
Yeah I think Gradey is a great athlete—he just doesn’t jump high. But he runs very fast. He’s extremely agile and coordinated. Good lateral quickness. Very quick first step. He just can’t jump (which is how most people who watch basketball measure athleticism for some reason). By comparison, a guy like Svi had hops but was a worse athlete than Gradey in every other metric.
Can’t wait to see how he has improved this year.
And regarding edge—Gradey is clearly VERY competitive, even if he looks like a happy go lucky kid from the boondocks.
