I think the roster is set with the training camp guys having the opportunity to push out one of the bench guys but to do that the Spurs will either have to trade (for which I think there is little market for the no.10-15 guys) or swallow $3-5m which the Spurs do not like doing.

We already have Collins who is a cheap version of Markkanen. Of course Markkanen is better, but is he that much better? Collins makes 1/3 the salary and we dont have to give Ainge all our draft picks to keep him. I dont like some of the stuff we did this summer(FU Champaigne) but I'm glad we stayed away from this.

This is the thing, as much as some people dislike Collins, he provides value for money, especially once his shooting recovered in the second half of the season. I think people are down on Collins as Wemby proved more effective at centre and therefore Collins has been relegated to backup but even at backup he is worth his contract. I question whether Lauri is going to be worth his contract at more than double Collins cost.

Wow... I'm not sure about the Collins / Markannen comparison. One is a fringe nba player, the other one is a allstar...

Still, I agree the price would have been too high.

Agreed,

Basically I was making the point that what Ainge would want in return would not be worth it no matter how much better he is than Collins
