Why are you even commenting if you’ve never watched Russell play? If anything, Jokic’s defense is ahead of Russell’s offense.

The same reason most people put him in and Wilt in their top ten despite never seeing them play. Regardless, I'm not trying to litigate a Jokic's defense vs Russell's offense argument. But, I think the sentiments some of you are sharing about Jokic's defense is a reflection of him being overated. We can't even admit that he isn't a good defender despite him being hidden on his teams defense whenever teams deploy two offensively dynamic bigs. We saw it during the Wolve's series.

Wait..how was Jokic bad against the Wolves because of two bigs? Also is there a single other team who can do that? I was expecting someone to attack his ability to stop guards in space, which while fair is hardly unique. But this?

My top vote getters for this, and I preface that they are all good players sure but the amount of "stardom" they carry is unbelievable:

Bradley Beal - never really an all-star just a scorer
Zach Lavine - never really and all-star just a scorer and a "loser"
Joel Embiid - can't get it done when it counts, always injured
James Harden - never gonna get it done when it counts
Dame Lillard - empty stats, never close to actually winning anything

When the Wolves deployed Reid and Kat, the Nuggets had MPJ guarding Reid while they had Jokic hiding on Mcdaniels. Never mind staying in front of guards in space or doing anything in pnr aside for being in drop coverage

Most of the best defensive bigs play drop. You want in an ideal world for your big man to be roaming inside so they can protect the paint. Now Jokic isn't by any means a top tier defender, but his quick hands, good rebounding, and great feet make him a pretty darn good defender in most situations. He has his weaknesses but so does Curry, Magic....Bird is massively overrated on that end. Honestly if you're not a 6'5 to 6'8 wing...there's a damn good chance there's some system or set that can be tough on you.

Jokic is a “darn good defender” while bird is overrated at the end despite being better at all of those things than Jokic.

Again, this is why I say Jokic is overrated. He is not a “darn good defender”. Curry and Magic aren’t good defenders either.

Bird was multiple times second team all defense. Bird was not a top 10 defender, thus he was massively overrated.

Bird can be better than Jokcic and be massively overrated.

I think its Giannis and not particularly close. He has very little "skill" compared to other NBA superstars.

I think his mental drive, athleticism, and size may have made him at least a fringe all star in any era, his super-duper-stardom is largely manufactured by a league that imo, lets him play football out there, knocking into everyone, while everyone else is mostly playing basketball.

You’re penalizing him for being too strong and fast? Giannis would be a superstar in any era, though he’s overrated at this point because he’s never healthy when it counts.

Edit: I guess his reliance on athleticism in the regulars season contributes to his being injured, but saying he would have potentially been a “fringe all star” in an earlier era is nuts. He’s a freak.
Also, something that might surprise people. I think when it comes to athleticism, agility, physical attributes and skill I rate LeBron only in the top 50.

Pulls up a list of players getting max. Most are overrated and while not the most my vote is Anthony Davis because he should be able to carry a team but the results have not been there. Biggest let down. Back to overrated I'll add Trae young.
1. Herro 2. Bol Bol 3. Seko 4. Bruno
unless we trade up for Barrett or trade down for PJ Washington

Why should Anthony Davis be able to carry a team, in your view?

This is a bit of a wild take. Yeah, Giannis isn't a finesse player, but he's hardly the first such player in league history.

Jokic was the most overrated a year ago, but I think people have come back to reality after his loss in the 2nd round.

Definitely Lebron James. The man hasn't played defense in a long time and is somewhat of a locker room cancer, yet he's all the media talk about.

was ayton and was ingram but people have finally wised up

i think mpj is ready to take the mantel. i was enthusiastic about him at the start but he's basically turning into a one-note player. he lives for the 3 and he could be so much better than that, his brain ain't functioning past where it is now. he should be better than tatum

,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,AND HE'S GOING INTO HIS 7TH YEAR

As a Nuggets fan, it pains me to say it’s Jamal Murray.

All-time: easily Michael Jordan. Not to say he isn’t an all time great, but his statistical profile and accolades do not even hint at him being some sort of runaway GOAT candidate that he’s commonly portrayed as.
