Post#1 » by SlovenianDragon » Sun Aug 18, 2024 2:07 pm

Sup dudes I went around this summer and went to as many places as i could and these are my favorites...

1. Karsens grill - best wings in the world - old town

2. The mission - guacamole they make at your table is ridiculously good - Old town

3. Happys hamburgers - best burgers in arizona - Scottsdale

4. Fry bread house - Amazing Native American tacos! - Phoenix

The list isnt very long but it had to knock my socks off...If you guys have been to any of these or try them let me know!

Also ive been trying to find a good Chinese place to no avail...so if anyone has any recommendations that would be great!

Or any other places worth checking out!

Chris Bianco owns Pizzeria Bianco which is often praised online. Kind of pricey for what it is IMO, but some people swear by it.
SHAZAM!

Suns traded Mikal Bridges, Cam Johnson, Jae Crowder and 4 1st round picks and a swap so some Vegas Bookies would like us.

Bianco is legit but his place Tratto is what you should go to. Sotisse, Bacanora, Valentine, and Vecina are all incredible and places I'd recommend.
If you're looking for good Chinese or Korean you basically have to go to Mesa. There's a strip over there with legit spots, but the rest of the city is pretty lacking there.

I went to a Caldwell County BBQ in Gilbert within the past week when I came to visit. That place was good. Don't think I'll be trying to visit again anytime soon.

Some nice medium-fare, upscale Mexican/Sonoran/Chilango (Mexico-City) food in Phoenix, too:

-Gallo Blanco
-Otro Cafe
-Bacanora
-Chilte
-Testal

One of my favorite, favorite restaurants, although slightly overpriced, is Gertrude's inside the Botanical Garden. Their Chile Verde Tamales and burger is one of my favorites, they use a ton of Sonoran desert ingredients, too.

Otherwise, I'm eating tacos / burritos all damn day with the occasional bout of Middle Eastern or Indian food:

-Green Corner (in Mesa and Chandler locations, I think they have a new Scottsdale one, too) is freaking amazing. Their hummus and lamb....

-Woodlands Kitchen in Chandler, has the best samosas and daal.

Also, I'm a sucker for Joe's BBQ in Gilbert and Shake Shack on Central.

Woodlands is so good. My favorite Indian food in town but we only do take out. The decor, ambience and food on styrofoam plates is not for me. The dosas!! Feringhee has fantastic non traditional Indian food.

East valley places I recommend:
Blue Adobe, Ghost Ranch, Haji Babas, Thai Spices, Unphogettable, Cafe Lalibela, Gogi, Worth, Los Sombreros, Mr. Pancho, Maskadores, República Empanada .

Gertrude's is a hidden gem. Great eggs benedict too. Go there then go explore the gardens. Seconding Haji Baba - went all the time when I lived over there. And Cornish Pasty is great too.

Some lesser known spots I like

Georges gyros (mesa or his son's location in Scottsdale) - maybe the best gyro I've ever had

Lukes - 16th St and Indian School - damn fine Chicago style beef and sausage

Harveys wineburger - great hole in the wall burger joint

Not an AZ native, but I did like the Henry in Scottsdale when I was there.

Highly recommend trying Kebab Grill and Go. They've gotten pricey but their plates are enough for 2. If you make it to Tucson, go to El Taco Rustico. Amazing birria, definitely try the ribs. And if you go to one of the Chinese places in Mesa, look for one with cumin lamb dishes. So damn good.
