Re: Transfer Thread 24/25
Very good discussion on TalkSport with our Sporting Directors Monchi and Vidagany regarding PSR. I think people should check it out whenever they can on YouTube.
Essentially saying that clubs like Villa who have good owners that have kept the club debt free, can’t spend like the rest of the 'top six' despite not going crazy on transfers in comparison to other teams. The only way we can do this is by constantly selling academy players, which as a fan and I’m sure staff at the club doesn’t really want to. I’m a big believer in keeping as many academy players as possible, especially if these young lads support the teams they are apart of. You should get an incentive for promoting youth talents and not selling them.
I get that the PSR rules were originally designed to stop clubs from spiralling into crazy debt, but over the years it’s just solidified the status quo of the league for the most part. There needs to be a new system in place that allows for all teams to spend within reason that’s better than the PSR way. Maybe taking a page out of the NBA and have a league wide limit based on the league revenue etc would be a better way to keep everyone happy.

Unfortunately, you can blame the one or two rotten apples in the batch as to why we're in the current situation. There will never be "perfect" rules, largely because each and every club operates different to one another.
Outside of PSR, look at Chelsea, for instance, as the club continues to exploit the rules at every opportunity -- selling a hotel to itself, transfers above 5 years for smaller amortization purposes, etc.
Point I'm making is even if another ruleset comes into play, clubs will work around it.

watched this interview, along with Emery's and then McGinn's.
Great to hear the thoughts of all of these guys, and it's nice to get some chat from team's outside the so called "Big Clubs"
Now that a date is set for City's charges to be heard, will be very interesting to see what happens. Would be great to see clubs outside these "Big 6" stand up to the league and call out some of the crap that goes on, such as Man United getting 40 mill in Covid losses allowed, when no other club came close to that claim. And that saved them from PSR breaches

Oliver Skipp sold to Leicester for £20m+
Decent fee. Wish him the best at Leicester, it turned out to be a good move for Winks and I'm sure it will be for Skipp.

Ornstein reporting Sepp van den Berg is close to leaving Liverpool in a permanent move. Set to achieve £20M+ valuation. Brentford strongly considering.
Outside of links to Valencia's GK, Giorgi Mamardashvili, it doesn't appear as if LFC will have any first team incomings.
EDIT: Bayer Leverkusen now interested in Sepp.

Re: Transfer Thread 24/25
Villa have apparently shown some interest in Sterling from Chelsea.
Sterling is reportedly willing to think about reducing salary for the right opportunity. There's ZERO chance Villa could take him on his current wages.
Not sure what to think of the link, as initially my first thought was hell no, but if Unai thinks it will work, I'm on board.
Think it could be a loan if it happens, as all of our incoming buys have been going toward younger players, apart from Barkley, who was cheap and will be a valuable back up.
As long as we also bring in a better RB/CB option (please be Geertuida), I'm happy with anything else.

Good additions. Aside from adding Thuram and Douglas Luiz, I've been upset by Juve's transfer decision all summer -- but I owe it to Giuntoli and Thiago Motta to at least take the "wait and see" approach.
On one hand, I think Soule' (now with Roma) and Chiesa (likely going to Barcelona) are better wingers, but the new additions are a bit more flexible positionally and offer much more defensively, so I can understand that they likely fit Motta's system better.

Liverpool have apparently put out feelers for a Chiesa deal, since it's looking like his move to Barcelona isn't going to happen.

It's quite comical when you consider what Slot and Hughes have been saying this summer.
All the usual journalists have put out similar tweets, which makes me believe LFC has briefed them. Apparently, he's available for €15m -- approximately what Bobby Clark was sold for. Don't get me wrong, talented and only 26 year of age, but it's Chiesa's injury history that worries me, especially coming off of the likes of Keita, Ox, and Thiago.
He'd come in as squad depth to Salah, however, would Chiesa accept that?
EDIT: Seems to be gathering steam.

He prefers the left but can play on either side effectively.
But I must admit he simply hasn't reached the level he was at before his ACL injury after Euro2021... At his age there's no reason he can't get back to that level, but the injury concerns are real

Ferdi Kadioglu signed with Brighton for about 33 mil. Good first step for him in much better competition, Brighton looks like an exciting team.

Re: Transfer Thread 24/25
Merino should be an excellent addition to the Arsenal squad.
Big, strong, athletic midfielder at a bargain price.
Also, Nketiah to be sold for about 30m.

For £10m, it's a risk worth taking. Hoping, though, the club doesn't view him as replacement for Salah should the Egyptian leave after the season.

Even with his injury history, £10-12.5m is an absolute steal for Liverpool. Really interested to see how he performs.

25-year old forward who played quite a bit for Arsenal the last couple of seasons when they didn't win the league but finished very high.
So who plays the role of the sub who comes in when Arsenal needs to score?
