I think if he was playing college ball in the US and just declared that he'd be a top pick in the draft. Of course at 23 he's physically more mature than your underclassmen but you can see skill and feel that you can't teach. I would expect that based on how he looked in SL the Knicks may actually get some interest in terms of Rokas being a potential trade asset. And maybe that is his ultimate path to the NBA. Maybe that's what the Knicks wanted all along...for Rokas to play in SL and show teams what he's about. That way they can potentially show some value with him as a potential trade asset. I don't see an opportunity for him to be a Knick given that it looks like he doesn't want to be a fringe rotation player with the Knicks.

Btw, contrary to popular belief, Rokas always wanted to play for the Knicks, there was no doubt in his mind there. At least from what he was talking in the Lithuanian media. It's simply that the Knicks FO never wanted him unfortunately, and it looks like it might still be the case. I hope he can at least get traded somewhere where someone might take a flier on him.

This reeks of the Thibs doghouse. Not enough confidence in his rim-attack game to justify the poor defense. Thibs would rather trot out Elfrid Payton (or Cam Johnson).

FO probably won't leverage this asset in time, sadly.

Interesting thing is if you look at the Knicks roster heading into the 2022-2023 season the starters were: Mitch, Randle, RJ, Brunson and Grimes. IQ had the 6th man spot locked in. Then there was Fournier, Reddish, Hartenstein, Rose and Toppin. Fournier by the end of the 2021-2022 season likely was already in Thibs doghouse. Reddish probably right next to Thibs (as by most accounts Thibs was not a fan). That left Hartenstein (a new signing at the time), Rose (who had only played 26 games the previous season) and Toppin (who never really got into Thibs good graces nor received trust as an offensive option). My guess is that they didn't want to sign Melo cause the optics on Fournier (who they had just given a big $72 million the offseason before), Reddish and Toppin (who had been Rose's first draft pick as the head man and the highest draft pick in a long time) would have been real bad. In hindsight they probably should have just brought Melo back (the same offseason they signed Fournier) and not bothered with Fournier. Their bench would have been IQ, Melo, Hartenstein and then shortly around midseason Josh Hart (who they acquired via trade in season). That's a nice bench.

But it sounds like they wanted him and offered him the 11th man role.. as Thibs would say "situational", but his ego got in the way.
Not sure what else he could've expected at that point in his career - he was an 11th man.
And in hindsight he would've played a ton.
