Ah I see MLSE is telling Doug to write positively of him now that he is the face of the franchise.
Doug is still salty that his #1 source Freddy All Star is off the team.
Exactly, Scottie doesn't want to be buddy buddy with the local media, and in his defence, look at who we have.
Also, the Thing about Scottie's second year, we all know what happened.
He got hurt early, and Freddy Allstar "had to" play hero.

I don't know that he's averse to being buddy buddy with the media. But he's definitely averse to being buddy buddy with Doug Smith and rightfully so. I've never seen a beat reporter be so hypercritical of such a young player, not to say that it hasn't happened (I'm sure it has) but I can't recall seeing it in my 20+ years of Raptors fandom.

Re: Official Scottie All Star Barnes Thread 8
He's really underrated overall when you consider that he literally guards everyone from guards to C's and the quality of player he defends is really high.
I still think his best role is that of an off ball frontcourt roamer, like how Giannis is used. Chasing around guards all game, for someone at his size, will wear him down, but he should still do some of that when needed.

It should never be NEEDED. It will happen in the flow of the game from time to time but he needs to be near the rim as a helper and rebounder. He needs to save most his energy for offense. There are too many possessions in todays game, the players, are too skilled and too explosive to ask Scottie to be our go to defender and offensive player. He will not make it to the end of the season and if he does, he will be a shell of himself before February. Scottie is also a great 4th quarter guy and he won't have legs for his late game heroics we all love. It's just a brain dead idea for a guy who physically can't fight over screens due to his build.

FVV and Siakam lmao.
Scottie always gave that clutch vibe, that step back 3 against the spurs sealed the deal to me. And this chart is based on that disaster of a season too, pretty good sign.

Props TZ!

It's one of the (many) reasons I do not like this roster, we don't have anyone who can defend like Scottie, forcing him into the default POA/defender of the best opposing player role is a terrible use of his talents.

Props TZ!

I had a fever dream of sorts, and Scottie seemed well. I sensed something positive, perhaps a big season in the works.

Bringing in Shead and Davion should help with that. Both are known for their POA defense vs GsScase wrote:OakleyDokely wrote:HiJiNX wrote:Poor defender.

Ehh, in theory I guess, but he's gonna be playing the majority of his minutes with IQ/RJ. He's likely going to be still stuck doing that a bunch, or thrown on a star wing.

Props TZ!

Ya, they're definitely missing a big wing defender. It's going to be their biggest issue defensively, especially if they start RJ/Dick.

I mean if that's the case it just means he's doing the bulk of his scoring before a 'grenade' needs to be thrown.
