Angel Reese to host her own podcast 'Unapologetically Angel' (Player podcast thread)

Post#1 » by cdubbz » Tue Aug 27, 2024 11:37 pm

This thread can be for any players and their podcasts you come across.

Angel Reese announced she will be hosting her own podcast 'Unapologetically Angel' with co-host Maya Reese!
They're a part of the Playmaker media network that also has TheOGsShow (Haslem & Mike Miller), BigPodwithShaq (...Shaq) & Roommates_show (Josh hart, & Brunson)

Has a young athlete had their own podcast this early? Most athletes with podcasts are veterans or retired players, but this will be new. It will be interesting to see the style that she brings or the show will have and how she lets her personality shine -- it's definitely not easy and not for everyone to be the voice on a podcast, but good for her for trying it out early.

Anyone notable? I know a lot of young folks have podcasts especially in the social media influencer world, but many of them are awful with only a few popular that i know. Nelk Boys instantly come to mind for the 20 year old folks, i know gamers and other social media influencers have them but theyre just okay.

It's just a difficult space to stand out. Consistency is also key, but so is being entertaining.

yeah, it was pretty cool like 5-10 years ago when current and retired nba players just started doing them, but at this point, the podcast market is super oversaturated and there has to be at least 50 of them of just former players by now.

i'm not very plugged in but i know a few from the university of iowa (so i'm mostly assuming its happening elsewhere as well)

a few former football walkons have one (washed up walkons - been going for several years i think)
the mccaffrey brothers (basketball) have (had?) one
the sandfort brothers are starting one up i think
jada gyamfi just started one - that i actually am listening to (i rarely partake in podcasts) mostly because i'm in on women's bball

Ah cool and it's with the Players Tribune. Most views was with Caitlin Clark as a guest a year ago at 69k views. The rest are anywhere from 4k-33k views each episode. Don't think that's bad at all. I'll definitely give some episodes a listen when I get the chance --being able to conduct an interview naturally and make it interesting and fun is a difficult skill.

Yeah, anyone can have a podcast. Whether or not anyone listens to them is another question.

Shout out to Haley Jones and her podcast 'Sometimes I hoop'.

Listened to the full Georgia Amoore video pod and it was great. She's a good interviewer, the pod flows, & she's lively. A Very natural conversation between the both of them. Amoore is entertaining as well as a guest -- potential first round pick in next years draft.

Yeah and not everyone has the personality to have a good podcast.

A lot of the NBA guys who have one are actually funny guys and tell great stories, but there are also some boring ones here and there. Luckily these athletes have the backing of big media companies to give them support and mentor them along the way.

I'll check it out. Seems like a no brainer for Angel tbh. Glad to see her really establishing her brand.

I would love for her to have Shaq on as a guest, I think they're pretty tight.

Yeah off the top of my head, Carmelo Anthony's podcast is really good, and funny. Same with Jalen Brunson and Josh Hart's podcast...they're hilarious.

Paul George is good but I hate his sidekicks, that one dude he always has on with the cornrows was trying to hit on Cameron Brink a few months back and I got annoyed by that so I don't really check for it anymore. Dude is old enough to be her father ffs.

Jeff Teague is absolutely hilarious, but again, his sidekicks are just lame as hell and they talk mess like they're big time. It takes me right out of it.

Basically, I'll listen to your podcast but if your cohosts are ass holes I'm out. I hope Angel has a good co host that keeps things fun and chill.

Didn't something similar happen when Betnijah was a guest on the MrDollarBills podcast? ;-)
Just because it happened to you, doesn't make it interesting.

In theory, there is no difference between theory and practice. In practice, there is.

Never! Ever! I am a professional my friend, I may think it, but I won't say it  :D I was raised to be respectful despite my foul mouth.

Besides, Betnijah is within my age range, so I'm not old enough to be her papa. But, she is a married woman, so I digress.

Now that being said, if I was on here going on about any of the rookies being hot or whatever, call the police on me ASAP because that's gross and I literally am old enough to be their dad. I dunno how dudes do that. Cameron looks like a kid to me...it's just weird, unprofessional and wrong for so many reasons.

Episode 1 out today for those interested to see how it goes! She covers a lot of topics and the youtube version offers time stamps with different topics.

Some of the topics:
- Why she missed time at LSU to clear rumors
- Relationship with Caitlin Clark
- Being sexualized & social media impact
- Unrivaled
- Rookie of the year talk

Overall I listened to a majority of it and it's a good platform for Angel to clear the air for whatever she wants to clear. You can definitely tell it's her first podcast and her and her co-host Maya Reese still working on the flow and It felt more like an interview with pre-determined topics which is fine.

Basically nothing ground breaking. It's another podcast with a young 20 something year old and I think Angel fans will enjoy getting to hear more from their player. I'm always for hearing stories from current or former athletes.

^this is a link to Angel speaking about receiving death threats and other things. This is messed up.

I hope people understand when myself and others push back on the attacks on Angel here, it's nothing to do with CC, who Angel speaks highly of, but the trolls using this to behave in vile ways towards Reese and other WNBA players. This should be getting condemned

Came across Flau'jae's podcast 'Best of both worlds" with Overtime on youtube.

Watched a few minutes of the JuJu podcast and man she is entertaining and a natural lol. No co host, just straight talking and story telling with the guest. She's going full speed the entire time too which is funny.
