Pratt gone
Welch gone
Johnson Jr gone
Dubose gone
Newman gone
Toure gone
Caleb Jones gone

Packers taking a massive hit on their depth today. I'm annoyed at Gutey's decisions all over again

Claiming Narveson is cool though

The Packers had plenty of time to watch these guys - multiple years in the case of all but Pratt - and decided that they had better options on their roster depth-wise. I don't see any need for annoyance.

I would've liked to keep a couple of those guys with the organization but to say we took a "massive hit on our depth" is a crazy overreaction.

The Anthony Johnson Jr. one is the only one that has me looking at Gutey a little sideways. I don't like that it leaves us one Xavier McKinney injury away from a safety room full of rookies (even if they've shown promise) and Zayne Anderson.

You don't have to go back too far to find practice squad guys or bubble guys who made real contributions to our team. Corey Ballentine, Bo Melton, Rasheed Walker, Anthony Johnson Jr, Robert Tonyan etc. Just to name a few who have contributed in recent years)

The margins can absolutely matter

It sounds to me like the Packers don't want Joseph here, either. They're just trying to find a replacement, and think Joseph is a safer stopgap in the interim.

But yes, I hope Joseph is waived before Week 1.

But you can't force guys onto your PS. You release them and hope for the best. Can't blame Gute that they found roster spots elsewhere.

Good thing the guy responsible for having those players around is still the one making the decisions on the margins for us then.

You're opinions are fine. I'll just note that they didn't choose to keep Clifford over Pratt. They released them both. Clifford got through waivers and was resigned to the PS. Pratt didn't. It is what it is.

Edit: Pratt wasn't claimed - he signed to the Bucs PS.

This isnt true, neither was claimed. Bill Huber reported yesterday that the Packers preferred to keep Clifford on the practice squad over Pratt and they would allow Pratt a chance to find a new home. They seemingly chose Clifford over Pratt

Sorry, you're right. I misread the tweet and thought the Bucs claimed Pratt.

Look, I will admit to not getting into the preseason drama or even getting to watch much more than 10 snaps this year vs. recent years.

I do understand that good/smart organizations are always developing the next QBs and even #3 is "important" in that sense.

I'm just going to jot this down, though. Something you wrote. Pratt went through the waiver process and 31 other teams passed. Obviously some planned to contact him and pick up afterwards, but this detail still probably tells you something.

If you think your edge guys are good you can never have enough of them. LVN will likely play some inside also.

OL is the same way you always seem to need guys there. Maybe one of the young guys will develop the way Walker did.

If they think Willis is a better prospect over Clifford and Pratt, then it makes sense to keep Clifford in the short term because he knows the offense. Pratt might have chosen Tampa anyway so maybe the Packers didn't have a choice.

I would have kept Johnson over Zane, but I trust the staff to know what they want from their likely 5th best safety.

I'm sure MLF and the Coordinators made cases for, or against retaining individual players. Also, I'd guess Hafely values player traits somewhat differently than Barry did

Brenton Cox was Edge5 last year and played 4 defensive snaps. What the heck is edge6 going to provide?

I understand some of the decisions we're essentially out of Gutey's hands(they weren't going to keep 7 WR or 11 OL) so losing guys like Dubose isn't necessarily on Gutey. But it still hurts the overall depth of the organization, it wasn't that long ago that Malik Taylor & Darrius Sheppard were getting called up from the practice squad to play real meaningful WR snaps for a contending team due to injuries. Some I blame on Gutey(Pratt, Johnson Jr, Welch), some I blame on just having a numbers crunch(Dubose, some of the OL depth)
Coach Drew: "Milwaukee has always been a team that I have been intrigued by. When we played them, they were a tough team for us to play. Although we did beat them all four times"
