I think this is a pretty great cheap signing for Boston.

Walker probably isnt a playoff rotation caliber guy but he can play in the RS and keep their core guys a bit more fresh.

He 100% isn't a playoff rotation guy. He also is a in-and-out of the regular season rotation type.

This is great for Walker who joins the title favorite. Doesn't really change a thing for Boston.

Bit surprised myself. Seems like a high character guy who works hard and never complains. Not great or terrible at anything but he's been a solid shooter last couple season.

This is a great pickup for the celts. I disagree that he won't get min in the playoffs. He might not play in the 4th qtr. in close games, but he can keep Holiday resting on the bench for 5 more min a game. When the season ended, I hoped for Kriss Dunn but this is not a bad consolation prize.

off topic, why is Kendrick Nunn out of the league?

Cuz he sucks and he's already 27 years old and probably won't ever not-suck.

He's a Euroleague star now...
Had a bum knee in his 1 year with LAL, amazing how similar his path is to Gabe Vincent...

Doesn't change anything meaningfully for Boston right now, but might open some additional doors for them later on if things work out with Walker.

I'm worried that ownership might sell off some of the key roleplayers as the tax bills start creeping up to egregious levels. If they can squeeze enough out of a guy like Walker and sign him to a multi-year vet min deal, that might open the door to moving off someone like Pritchard or Hauser. It'd be a talent downgrade, but they'd be doing it for cost savings anyway.

Hauser got resigned this summer, Pritchard got his deal last summer, but both could potentially be replaced with guys like Walker or Baylor Scheierman who are downgrades on the court but also would save tens of millions in the long-run.

Don't think that's the likely outcome here, it's just a training camp deal so Walker likely ends up elsewhere anyway. But with the core of the roster locked up long-term, I think these are the kinds of deals Brad Stevens is going to be stuck hunting with an eye towards saving money in the long-run as opposed to trying to actually get a better playoff rotation (although I hope I'm wrong).

I think he could replace Pritchard.

Celtics would save $5m in salary but a ton of tax. They'd be in striking distance to drop under the 2nd apron if they managed to move springer too.

Scheierman as well looks like he could be a potential fit to replace Pritchard. I think people saw him as a Hauser clone, but I actually think he seems like he operates as a bigger guard than a wing. Both Walker and Schierman can give you that instant offense off the bench without losing much/anything defensively since Pritchard is a target on that end of the floor anyway.

I don't expect them to rock the boat now, but I really wouldn't be surprised if the C's ultimately made moves to get under the 2nd apron if everyone is healthy and things work out with some of the fringe guys (or alternatively if the season goes to ****, but harder to imagine them waiving the white flag).

Scheierman may be able to facilitate on offense but no way is he guarding either guard spot in the NBA IMO. You can let him play some PG on O but he for sure isn’t foot quick to play the other way at PG. BOS needs a competent backup guard who can guard PG and IMO Pritch is the only answer for that on their current roster.

Defensively he'd still match up against wings but you'd have him run the offense on the other end with certain rotations. C's have enough wings who can guard up/down a size that he can run the point while not actually having to play the position. His defense is atrocious at this stage though, I wouldn't expect him to get any significant minutes this year. It'd be more of consideration for future years if he can get to a passable NBA level defensively.

Agreed on needing a competent backup PG. Like I said I think if they made a move like this it'd be an objective downgrade, but the main aim would be to save money.

I guess this makes Prtichard expandable: I would trade him for cap relief and picks (1 FRP or multiple SRPs)

I dont see that at all. Lonnie is just going to eat some regular season minutes and ideally hit the 3 at a decent clip. He and Pritchard are playing very different roles IMO.

Also - no team is moving a FRP for Pritch.

Always brings a smile to my face when I see this video on twitter haha

Belichick watches a lot of C's game in the box with Brad. Feels like some weird freaky friday type of **** happened where they swapped minds and Bill forgot how to GM team but Brad's a goat at it now.
