Player of the Year
1. Bill Russell
I'm truly out of things to say about Bill, the Sixers of the next few seasons are the first team to be their equal talentwise, but the Celtics still get it done 3/4. Massacred the Lakers in the Finals. Russell officially moves to the top of my POY shares list past Mikan (starting in '46).
2. Oscar Robertson
I have Oscar's playmaking edge as larger than Wests defensive edge and the better overall player due to it, so ahead for a POY vote when team achievements are somewhat similar. I've got their achievements similar this season. The Celtics/Sixers looked like near equals over the 3.5 seasons with Wilt and Oscar looked just as good (a bit better even) vs the Sixers this season than West did against the Celtics.
3. Jerry West
Mentioned it in another post, but I don't think this West season stands out above its peers. The Bullets were simply not good playoff competition. Don't really mind anyone preferring Jerry to Oscar, but not personally how I see it.
4. Wilt Chamberlain
Tough decision between having him #2 or #4. #3 is a bit of a confusing spot for him imo. Anywho, I came down on the side of 'punishing' the first half of the RS (punishing a bit harsh, he drops to the bottom of a tier of guys I've had him with for most of his career), he got lucky to get traded somewhere where he could forget about that first half. In Wilt's post I'll give a shoutout to Greer, who very well may have been the best Sixer in their win vs the Royals.
5. Sam Jones
Probably the best overall season from Sam, happy to see it get onto my ballot. Strong scorer and good defensively imo. More often than not I slightly prefer Greer, but I think Sam got him this season. Feels nice to honor another Celtic from the 2nd half of the dynasty.
