Anybody want a Bulls guard?
So Chicago trading for Giddey initially felt weird with White, Ayo, and Lavine already in town. Ball seems to be getting prepared to start the season too. Carter is a rock solid vet deserving playing time too. Then you’ve got guys like Duarte and Terry who could show enough to merit some minutes at the two.
With all that being said, what trades are out there to clear this glut a little? Let’s assume Lonzo and Lavine aren’t available because the price would be too bad (and that their trades have been done to death on here).

Re: Anybody want a Bulls guard?
Ayo seems like the guy here if the Bulls want actual value in return.
White and Giddey are staying. Lonzo and Lavine don't have any value for reasons that have been discussed ad nauseum on this board.
Duarte is on his third team in three years so I don't think anyone is giving up value for him. Maybe someone high on Terry pre-draft might give a 2nd for him but his numbers have been pretty blech.
Carter might fetch a 2nd at the deadline.

Duarte and Carter can get you to $12.3mil. Could land you like a Marvin Bagley or Jock Landale type center depth piece.
You’re right, Ayo definitely seems like the guy to move though.

I mean, Ball's not really going to play meaningful minutes, right? If anything, try to sell high on White, unless you can find a buyer for Lavine.
Well at least we're not Detroit!

I don't see the problem.
PG: White | Ball | Carter
SG: LaVine | Ayo | Duarte | Bitim
SF: Giddey | Terry | Phillips
PF: PatWill | Matas | Craig
C : Vucevic | Smith |
Even if Ball comes back the rotation is fine. Jevon and Craig are probably the most talented in the deep bench. Both are vets that they can keep for locker room or buyout at deadline.

They could use an extra center for depth, especially as their PF's are all SF/PF types who really can't/shouldn't move to center. That's more of a 3rd strong/depth concern though. Maybe move Carter or even Duarte (for someone who's just an extra body).

Re: Anybody want a Bulls guard?
Looking at zimpys list, I don’t see why they would need to move anyone. You need Carter in case Ball isn’t fully ready, and quite honestly Carter has no real value at this point.
Not to change the focus, but are the Bulls trying to compete or rebuild? I really can’t tell

Re: Anybody want a Bulls guard?
Ayo makes sense to move, but I think he stays. Chicago kid, crowd favorite and he will have more pressure on D now with Caruso gone.
I think Lavine rebuilds his value and could be gone by Jan
Ball (supposedly) is going to play this year. He might have some value to a contender. I love the guy but we don't need him with Giddy in town and our rebuild going full on
I REALLY wanted us to explore trading White at the draft. I thought SA was a perfect fit (#8 pick, Bulls' pick back). He's on a cheap deal, still improving but very solid now and a great kid. Orl was another idea.
I don't see a fit for him now, except maybe Char would want him. They have the Dallas pick, and their pick is open after this year, plus some salaries that would match. He'd look really good with Ball/White/Miller/Bridges/Williams, and some nice bench pieces. Plus, he's from NC

Yes.
Bulls have made an effort to get younger for sure, but I don't think they're younger with the intention of being bad.
A play-in team led by a core group over 30 will get one reaction, a play-in team led by a core under 30 will get another.

Yeah, I don’t see a problem either?
Keep in mind, this is basically a Lonzo Ball rehab season. He’s probably going to play short stints, and not play back to backs? He’s missed 2 whole seasons, and that’s a lot to try and bounce back. Bitim, Duarte, and Carter can just grab the extra minutes that White, Lavine, and Ayo don’t take? Add in an eventual Lavine trade and there’s not much meat on the bones here. It’s basically just a standard rotation depth?

Re: Anybody want a Bulls guard?
You have the list but right now and when the season starts it's not clearance time, that VERY shortsighted. They've made considerable changes but you can't overturn a roster in one summer.
Carter should be the first to move. He didn't seem to have a role last year. He's only 6 feet tall, not a great passer, a streaky shooter. Caruso and Javonte Green, sometimes Ayo were playing the PF so in the Bulls switching defense those three were fine switching onto a guard but Carter ending up on a 3 or 4 was a disaster.
Lavine is still on the block as soon as a team decides he' good for them or some team has a catastrophic injury to a scorer he's going to stay. The most likely scenario is that he starts at the SF, yeah out of position but the Bulls roster is in resetting and not a finished product.
Ayo is almost a PG almost a SG, plays hard, brings energy, plays defense, is improving his shot, ball handling and decision making. You don't trade that guy.
Coby White was 2nd in most improved player voting,, he works hard on his game. He's due a new contract, why would you give him up before you know how good he can become and what that might mean for a new contract. He's a good person to have, started as a rookie and wasn't ready came off the bench for a couple of years started last year and didn't complain. You don't just get rid of character.
Giddey looks ready for his extension and should be the future.
You can't junk Lonzo ball nor count on him to come back great. The Bulls have waited 3 years for him to return so they might as well find out what they've got left after paying him $60M for 35 games. What other team is gong to be dumb enough to give up assets to take a $21M gamble ?
Chris Duarte is a capable NBA player, you need them on a roster, no need to just dump him.

Someone might pay to salary dump with Lonzos contract. Dillon Brooks and a couple of seconds for Lonzo at the deadline.

The Bulls are in a tricky place from a cap sheet perspective.
On paper - Lonzo's expiring contract could have some value around the league as an expiring contract.
Issue for the Bulls is they've been right up against the tax in recent seasons and they're not going to go into the tax for a non-conference contending team.
Giddey is due an extensions next summer - a lot of the cap space below the tax they'll need for that extensions comes from the expiring contracts of Ball, Duarte, and Craig.
If they traded Ball for long-term salary - maybe it gets them a future assets, but it also creates a cap sheet issue where they then don't have the room to extend Giddey without entering the tax.

I would love Ayo. We have such a guard glut, but I think he's a perfect fit at shooting guard for us. Kessler for Ayo? Kessler + Sensabaugh for Ayo + POR 1st? Would prefer the 2nd because it doesn't compound the guard issue as much.

Re: Anybody want a Bulls guard?
I think the real answer is to attach some 2nds to Carter and shop him to teams needing a backup point guard who can defend. Someone will have an injury, etc.

Kessler to NO, Missi + protected 1st to Chicago, Ayo to Utah?
Missi gives Chicago an emergency depth center for now with some upside, plus an extra pick. NO gets a center who can credibly start right away.

IMO they should try and cash in on White and trade him for a young player that can grow with Buzelis/Giddey.

Re: Anybody want a Bulls guard?
I think Ayo would make sense for the Sixers as a mid season target. Forward may end up being the bigger need though, and they have limited ways to match salaries.
A healthy Lonzo (feels unlikely) would be an amazing fit next to Maxey.
