I think you are misremembering how bad Trey was. In his first three seasons he had one month with over a 50%TS (his second month, 51.5%). George had one month below (47.8%, also his second month) and had two months shooting 56%TS. In January and February his +/- was -0.3 and -1.4, respectively. Burke never had stretches like George had already shown.

There is a lot to work on, obviously, but there are flashes of a good player. Also remember that Burkes second gear we had a pretty decent team (38-44) that did not tank so he had more talent astounds him and was still terrible.

To be clear, I'm not remotely suggesting that the Jazz shouldn't have given up on Burke... just that, despite a better rookie season, his performance didn't live up to the hype, much like George this year. I'm not a believer in Keyonte, but I'm willing to be converted.

He didn't have a better rookie season, though. He was totally undeserving of the accolades he received.

We'll have to agree to vehemently disagree.

Kessler should be prioritised over Collins though. Kessler and Hendricks are the only guy under 23 on Jazz that we know will be an NBA rotation player for the next 5 years. Only reason to move Kessler is because you think Hendricks is a bad fit with him on the court.

Right now I think Sexton, Lauri, Hendricks, Kessler should be your future. I'd be paying up for a guy like Suggs next offseason to complete this group. In the meantime see how George and Cody develop.

The whole team was suffering from the lack of ball movement and creation. Development for us involves a lot of players and it helped George to have the extra spacing. It also seems like a sign of where the FO and coaching staff want to go, bigs who can shoot and pass. I think impact players with those attributes are pretty rare and it would be a waste to move on from Kessler bc he's a traditional big, but that may be what happens.

If developing George was a key reason why the decision was made, then I have even more reason to question the rationale of the coaching staff and the executive braintrust. Keyonte might have been the worst rotation player in the league and he was even worse post-deadline.

If it makes you feel any better I dont think he was even the worst rotation rookie point guard in the division last year.

Scoot didn't look great either, but at least he showed signs of improvement post-ASG — especially his playmaking — while Keyonte clearly regressed. It will be an interesting sophomore season for both.
