Ok, I'm an overthinker and an overworryer (is that a word?) - but this much weight loss is not gonna affect his rebounding? We are not very strong inside as is, and if we lose some of his effectiveness on that end, we could be in a world of hurt every night trying to secure rebounds and not giving up second chance points (which are usually close range layups or wide open 3s - both very high percentage shots).

I actually think losing the extra weight will only help him on the boards. He's already one of the longest dudes out there on most nights and uses that and his anticipation to outrebound other people around him. The lost weight would just help him get into position quicker, jumper quicker/higher and maybe give him better ability to push the ball up the court right after a rebound. I also think there's a chance he'll look better scoring around the rim as well as he may have the lift he hasn't had in a while.

Just cause he lost some weight doesn’t mean he lost any strength. He's fatguy strong. Surely improved his endurance too.

How some can suck out some negative venom on Nurk shredding up is beyond silly.

Probably wouldn't affect it too much except for the bigger centers like Embiid, Gobert, Jokic but we aren't going to be going up against them every night.

Hopefully the lost weight will allow him to get to his spots on defense quicker and keep up with his man on drives, not sure about finishing since his bricked layups seem more about the lack of timing and bad hands more than anything.

Yeah, if you're in better shape you should be able to rebound better, not worse.

His release is so fast now it's hard to get no blur on his shots. Impressive.

Honeslty, I'm not sure if I should go now. I might fan girl too hard and embarrass myself if I see a true nba icon like Bartelstein.

Kind of weird you don't see the top 4 in the second list on the first list.

Post defense is more about strength, toughness and experience.

The second list is more about rim protection and help defense. Usually there are long players with great agility and nice timing to bother shots. Look at the wingspan of the first 5 players in the list. Crazy length.

It's remarkable that Nurkic is on both lists.

I know, but I'd still think Gobert, AD and Bam would be in the top 10 in post defense.

I know, but I'd still think Gobert, AD and Bam would be in the top 10 in post defense.

It could be for one of these reasons:

•Offensive players don't even try to play in the post against them because they know that it's TOO difficult... so the numbers to qualify in the list are low.

•All three are great defenders but they lack some weight/legs-strength to be elite in post defense.

Yeah I doubt many try to go up against at least Gobert in the post for sure.

They're not sharing the math but the idea of teams not going out of their way to post up against those 4 definitely tracks. To varying levels, the lack of attempts can be influenced by their own team too. Not only are opponents avoiding post ups against them, the team they're on will specifically keep them out of post-up matches so they are available as a help defender, being some of the best in the league in that area.

like so many other athletes, nurk has had his career altered after serious injury and unfortunately, people remember you as the player you are know, not the player you were before and he was really, really good (before leg break) on both ends of the floor and he was only 24 years old, trending in the right direction and i still believe he wouldve become an all-star caliber player

id like to be wrong, but i dont think losing weight will improve his mobility, which is exactly what altered his career, thats all leg break and unfortunately theres no coming back from that, but maybe it helps him to stay healthy and improve his stamina

if phoenix had this nurk...

No one 30 years old returns to their 24 year old athletic peak no matter what athletes say or feel about their body. I don't think anyone is expecting that. What I think we can reasonably expect is that he will be more mobile just based on having less weight to carry. And having more mobility will help him in different aspects of the game.

i hope youre right, more mobile nurk is certainly a different player, a better one

that would allow him to play in the pnr action (by far his best offense) and also do better job on defense
