Really hope he's okay, for him first, but admittedly the team second.

As far as the team it didn't sound like he'd be contributing much his first year anyway, especially with Aiyuk coming back. Really sucks on a personal level though. Hopefully it's not career ending.
You seem to care more about his lack of contribution to the team instead of his welfare from getting shot thru the chest during a robbery attempt.

I'm hearing conflicting reports. Some are saying Pearsall was shot in the chest, others are saying he was shot through the arm and it was the suspect who got shot in the chest.

Obviously, either way its very scary and a gunshot wound anywhere is serious situation. Generally you would think that getting shot in the arm wouldn't be as bad as getting shot in the chest. But of course, that is with zero knowledge of the severity of the wound and what the extent of the damage is. Even with an arm shot, he could have sustained nerve damage and perhaps lose functionality of his arm or hand.

Since he walked to the ambulance under his own power, and he's reported as being in "stable" condition, it seems like he didn't sustain life threatening injuries. Which is of course the most important thing. Deebo also sent out a tweet saying "he's good." So that's encouraging.

As for the just give up the watch standpoint, sure that's usually the best thing to do in that situation. But its easy to say that in hindsight, and obviously not being in that situation personally. We also don't know exactly how he was approached, and when/how the gun was brought into the equation. In a situation like that, a lot of people will reflexively choose to fight in a fight or flight type of situation.

In any event, hope Ricky comes out of this no worse for the wear and makes a full recovery.

Glad the suspect survived this also. He’s probably gonna have a lengthy prison sentence for this ****.

I didn't mean to seem glib yesterday, or make light of what happened in any way. It is a very scary situation, and I'm glad that he appears to have been remarkably lucky and did not suffer life-threatening injuries. Hopefully Pearsall returns to full health and is not impacted by his injuries - for him. Football is secondary to this.

I get that what someone should do is not always what they do in the moment, and I can't say with certainty that I would do anything differently if someone pointed a gun at me. You probably aren't accurately weighing the pros and cons at that moment. But he's now in a situation where he's going to be a target of this sort of thing, and it's important for these guys to know that you don't fight back over property. You get insurance. You can always buy another watch.

Hearing he was 17. Good chance he's tried as a juvenile, though with the shooting, he could get bumped to adult court.

Based solely on the reports of chest and the video of him walking to the ambulance, it looked like it was his upper right chest, not far from his shoulder. Very lucky for him, if so. There aren't any organs there, and it's going to be primarily muscle and maybe bone that was injured (sounds like the bullet went through, which suggests just the soft tissue). That said, it could definitely hamper his ability to move his right arm in the short and long term.

He didn't die but the injury may derail his rookie season.

Yeah not worth dying for nor worth risking injuries.

Some other NFL player was shot and he couldn't play for awhile.

When I first heard this story, it sounded like he intervened when someone else was in trouble. I didn't realize that he was getting robbed and tried to fight a guy with a gun.

Brian Robinson was shot multiple times in DC but was able to debut 6 weeks after. He was on my winning fantasy team that year.

So looks like Trent might hold out into the season, which will cost him millions. Trent has been talking about retirement the last few years, and now the team has to depend on two bad tackles against the Jets.

Screw Trent. I'm usually pro player, but if he doesn't care about the team he can sit at home and eat the fines.

My guess is due to the gunshot wound the 9ers will put Pearsall on the NFI list which means he'll be out 4 games but he won't count against the 53-man roster.

Guess that will give his bum shoulder some time to heal up as well which hopefully means he can be full go when he comes off the NFI list.

With this front office I hate to predict things but I think Trent's contract will be settled before Thursday.

Trent just has all the leverage and you're just going to have to give him basically what he wants.

Reminds me of the Bosa situation last year where the 9ers were trying to stand firm but everyone in the room knew you were going to have to pay Bosa top of the market for defensive players.

Eventually both sides will stop screwing around and take an afternoon to commit to hammering out a deal. I mean how many "no progress, no end in sight" reports over the years we've seen and out of nowhere a deal gets done within an afternoon.

I would not want to get into a blinking contest with Trent.

If the bullet hit bones in the shoulder, that can't be a quick recovery. Even the soft tissue and muscles there are sensitive to irritation, as many baseball pitchers have problems with shoulder problems. An NFL WR doesn't have to throw the ball but the ability to extend the arms may be impacted.

Yea Trent is pissing me off with holding us hostage. He should look at his penalties in the Super Bowl and quit being a pain. He hasn't made enough money in his career? Still pissed we didn't draft a Tackle to replace Mckivitz and eventually slide to LT.
