Yearly releases for sports games are pointless, especially since the addition of online updates. It’s just copy and paste the previous games, but make one small little tweak and just push that little change in marketing to make it sound like it’s a brand new game.

EA and 2k won’t change until people stop buying these games every year. People are essentially paying $60-70 every year for a roster update.

It's a problem for all brands that release new games annually. Games cost absurd prices and brands add all those microtransactions to get even more, it's unplayable from the time you launch a game. The best example is Call of Duty, the game was a legend and now it's a joke, year after year the same game with the same gameplay, but just new skins and some details to persuade you to overpay for this DLC. Unfortunately like you said it won't change quick as most people are willing to overpay for DLC and roster updates.

I got a new computer recently ... I'm looking at new games, last time I played a B-ball was like NBA live 2005 I think It was?

People tell me not to get this game, this thread confirms It by the looks of It.

People can argue getting this game or not if they already had 2K23, 2K24, but it's a no brainer for you if you last game was Live 2005 and you want to experience best basketball available.

It also comes with NBA league pass if you buy Hall of Fame edition. It's a good deal if you are getting league pass anyways.

That said, I think the franchise gets a little too much hate because of the microtransactions in the MyPlayer and MyTeam mode. If you just avoid these modes altogether, you can still play season and franchise modes, which are really good. Also, the gameplay and graphics are phenomenal. It's just a shame that the gaming industry is now built around the microtransaction model.

The disappointing thing about it is that myNBA is probably the most liked mode in the entire game, but they dont even bother with adding any storylines within it anymore after like 2k22. The fact that microtransactions arent a part of it is why the devs put such minimal effort into it with the exception of roster updates, and its sad.

2K19 was the last one I bought. I buy a new one every 7-8 years, so I do notice a difference lol.

They reworked myNBA and added some rpg elements to it. Might be what you’re looking for with story lines.

I still don’t get why people keep saying 2k is just the same gameplay when that’s not the case anymore since last year. They stopped using those traditional motion captured animations that they’ve been reusing for years and replaced them with new tech called ProPlay that directly takes animations from NBA footage. It’s a big difference in gameplay. I’m glad they finally started to focus on gameplay, but it shouldn’t have taken this long since the next gen consoles came out.

Skipped last year (and this is coming form someone that purchased every single 2K game since the OG dreamcast version back in '99) and I will skip this year as well.

The mode I play the most is the MyPlayer/MyPark and unless you're willing to spend an additional $100 on VC it it is impossible to even be competitive in this game. VC charging $10.00 for the season passes, which was always free, was the straw that broke the camels back.

So in order to get the full experience for NBA 2K you have to spend.

$70 for the game
$100 buck in VC
$90.00 for the season passes

$260.00 bucks which is pure insanity.

As bad as Activision is with COD in regards to bundles at least you can be competitive right out of the gate unlike 2K where your player, that is slow, cannot shoot, dribble, rebound, steal, or play defense yet somehow keeps making it into the NBA.

Thanks for posting this, I had no Idea about this... I was a Battlefield 3 player for a long time. I stopped playing after BF4, went back to BF1 the latest one, now I think It's 2042 or something? BF1 you buy the game, then you have to pay extra for extra weapons etc...

If this Is the same for NBA2k then hell no.

Not buying this crap unless they throw the VC stuff into the thrash can. If the game is good or not is irrelevant.

My brother bought it and i downloaded it on my ps5. Played it and in all honesty? Somehow...I like it....At least this version before they probably patch it and people start greening everything.

People miss shots..A LOT...like a lot lot. And the player you're controlling has weight. Like it feels as if you're controlling a person. It's both frustrating and good. But there is no way they wont patch it...Because people are missing a lot of shots and they will complain. Im a center so im more than happy to clean up. One big problem i have though....The paint presence is sorely lacking in my opinon.

7'0 with 7'6 wingspan and guards are laying it up on me easy at times. I dont like that. Okay if it's an opposing center with great positioning.

But 100% patches are coming and it'll ruin the game. At least online.

For sure you need to pay for VC because grinding is unbearable. The season pass you dont have to it doesn't add anything but some prizes you could easily get without. Sure if you play MYteam you get some rare cards. But if there is one thing 2K does well giving players plenty of options to get great cards is one of them. I started playing myteam and i already have a good team. I didn't need to grind for it or anything. MYteam always gives you plenty of stuff to start. It's not like ultmate team.

That is EXACTLY the problem. If someone wants to play MyPlayer/MyPark you can either buy VC so you can compete and not have a miserable time or you can spend 3 or 4 months (that is how long it would take me because I cannot play hours and hours per day) and maybe by December you could enjoy MyPark.

Im 100% with you the Pay to win model is cancerous and should be illegal imo. Microtransactions are the worst creation in gaming.

If my brother didn't buy the game i'd never have played this. I put 50USD into creating a character i admit because im not about to grind for months just to make the game bearable..

All i can say that with a build the game is decent enough. But buying the game plus paying at least 50USD on VC it's way too much.

The funny thing is they are actually policing the auction house in myteam   I dont know if you've ever played myteam but it's basically you can put a player that you have for auction set a price for him and see if other players buy.

People used to put out great quality players for nowhere near their actual worth. So you'd get like a great player for 80% reduced price if you really looked hard. It was great fun when i was hardcore into myteam. As soon as i opened up the auction house on myteam wouldn't you know it! A message pops up saying they'll watching people and their cards on auction to see if there is anything fishy going on   You cant even decide your own prices anymore lol. And they take a 10% commission for every player you sell...Why would they take a 10% commission on virtual currency that has no worth outside of MYteam? Because it's 2K and they're the worst of the worst.

Would i recommend people buy the game? Nope...Eve if it's decent the greed on display is cartoonish.

I can deal (mostly) with microtransactions when it comes to cosmetics but when it is directly related to winning that is a MAJOR issue.

Not that it will ever happen but Myplayer/MyPark should be its own entity (Like Warzone in COD) and should be free to play. Never played Myteam but that sounds completely absurd (but not surprising)

I like it. The new dribble engine is pretty cool and the signature go to shots makes its fun. A lot of new animations. One big difference in this game is the shot contest system. You can hit a lot of more contested shots in this game versus other 2ks. It’s more realistic now.

I’ve only been playing My NBA and play now though. I’m not paying to win in myplayer. Those micro transactions ruin the experience. Other modes though are great.
