We actually have exactly 70 players once the practice squad fills out. With the new rules allowing for practice squad elevations depth isn't just a 53 man roster thing, it's a 70 man roster thing and we lost a lot of guys that would have been quality depth to have.

If we need to callup a WR Dubose would have been better than Hicks/Wayne

If we need to callup a Safety AJJ would have been better than our current practice squad

I could keep going with Welch, Pratt, and even guys like Newman & Caleb Jones would have been better than an OL like Lecticus Smith

You can't bring up Dubose and Johnson and say they would have been better call ups. They are on other teams 53 roster. They wouldn't have been on the Packers PS.

The Packers must not have thought a 6th off ball lb was as important as depth at other positions. As far as I know Welch is still out there and hasn't been picked up by anyone.

I am guessing the Packers trust Clifford more than Pratt if something happened to Love this season because of he time being in the offense.

People have wanted Newman gone for years and it sounded like Jones was not good in training camp. The Packers have had some success developing lineman so I will trust their opinion on keeping Smith over Jones. Newman was claimed so he wasn't a practice squad option and I wouldn't have wanted him back if he was.

To be clear I've said multiple times that not all of this was on the Packers. Losing Dubose & Newman for example came down to a numbers crunch and I understand it. It's still a hit on their depth though

Losing Pratt, Welch, & AJJ are what I blame the Packers FO for.

There are a lot of times that decisions can be questioned for a GM. "The coach knows better" or "the GM knows better" isn't always a thing if we're talking about a huge contract for an older starter or whatever.

If NFL talent evaluators, who probably saw guys like DuBose or Pratt play "better" in preseason so that even a RealGM poster is downtrodden by these decisions...don't you think "GM knows best" may apply? Like, there has to be a reason for this (special teams, "meh, he's not a difference-maker and we need ST," or otherwise).

They didn't lose Pratt, Welch, and AJJ. They chose to cut them in favor of guys who they deemed more important. It's a good thing that the Packers have so much depth.

Morgan was hurt most of camp and didn't play at all in preseason. It will be interesting to see how he holds up against a good Eagles line.
I'm against picketing but I don't know how to show it.

Really happy they were able to grab Omar Brown to the practice squad. Liked him coming out of the draft this year and thought he'd be a nice developmental safety in the later rounds for us.

Matches Malone wrote:I was kind of bummed about AJJ getting claimed, mainly for depth. I think Oladapo is going to see more time at LB in sub packages this year than at safety. Health will be huge but I'm excited to see Bullard and Williams get the bulk of safety minutes next to McKinney. I have a gut feeling Evan Williams is going to be a stud in this defense and wouldn't be shocked if Bullard is taking reps away from Nixon in the slot by November.

My mind is still in bball mode.

I'm reading Andre Jackson junior and oladipo and it's not making sense to me.

I've been saying, "What's happening" as my default for about 30 years because of Luther's painful introduction here.
