Very excited. Reasonable money, solid starter with room to grow. This should age well, like the Nesmith deal.

This is insanely cheap, to me. It’s not much more than what the MLE for those 3 years will end up being.

interesting that it's 3 years rather than 4.

No options, per Tony East.

Yeah, it’s weird. He’ll get to free agency with 6 years of service, so it’s not even like he’ll get to a higher tier of max salary or anything.

These extensions for our young guys are excellent - the Nesmith one last year was a steal, this one is a steal... how are the Pacers front office doing it?

This doesn't make complete sense to me.

They're not giving him money "early". They were never going to take that 4th year, because he would be unrestricted if they did. He would have been a restricted FA after year 3. It also says Nembhard will decline the "team option". Well how does a player decline a team option?

I'm nit picking a bit, but none of it made sense to me. The numbers are good information though.

I’m glad to see them wrap him up on the cheap especially since the Spurs were sniffing his availability.

That keeps us with 3 very strong guards in Tyrese, Andrew, and TJ. Hopefully he breaks out further this season and despite upcoming decisions on Mathurin and Nesmith they’re well stocked.

I do think they need to be developing another guard by next season as the bigs feel deeper than they have been in years.

If Walker and Furphy are 3s, Nesmith, Mathurin, Sheppard, and Nembhard can all get minutes at 2. Walker also played some 2 in summer league. I just don't see the need for another guard but a lot depends upon whether Walker learns to defend big wings.

The whole “Nembhard declines a team option” part is totally valid. It’s clunky. But the rest? It’s paying him early, even if it makes little sense. Indy could have tried to force him to take a deal that required them opting in, but the whole opting him out a year early with a larger deal all ready for him is paying him “early” in classic sports contract parlance. But yeah, we all saw it happening.

One of my favorite players. Love to see it. Great deal and i think he still can become much better. His experience with team Canada this summer will only benefit him.

Good for Nembhard and good for the Pacers.

if we wanted to trade Nembhard for a wing-sized-wing on a rookie contract, how do the matching rules work in January? in next August?

His current salary at the time of any possible trade is all that matters. The future extension is not factored in at all, in terms of how much salary Indy is sending out or able to receive in return.

It’s a weird quirk, but I’ve had it confirmed with someone who would know for sure.
