Nuggets Extend Jamal Murray $208 Million/4 Years

Denver Nuggets star point guard Jamal Murray has agreed to a four-year, $208 million maximum contract extension, his agents Jeff Schwartz and Mike George told ESPN on Saturday.

The deal -- which keeps Murray out of free agency next summer -- ties one of the franchise cornerstones to the Nuggets for a total of five seasons and $244 million.

Murray always seems to kill the Suns when we match up but this contract is ridiculously bad for Denver. They are handcuffed now for years with all the max deals they have given out, now 2 to glorified roleplayers. Ouch!

If you’ve proven to be the 2nd best player on a title team then all star appearances don’t matter. However this deal could look awful in 2-3 years. Not sure how he will age with the past injuries.

You may call it a bad deal but at the end of the day Murray and Jokic duo proved they can dice apart the rest of the league and they have a championship to prove it. Would of been great for a more team friendly deal but what are you gonna do? Murray is a closer and has ice in his veins. He shows up in the playoffs and I'd rather have him than James Harden who chokes year in and year out even though he's an all star.

Did they really have to give Murray the extension now? Why not let the season play out to see if the these last playoffs + olympics were only a temporary hiccup rather than signs of whats to come?

Also, who even has the cap-space to sign Murray in next year's free agency class? And even if a team has the space, would they really offer a max to a guy who is injury-prone and has inflated numbers playing next to an all-time offensive hub in Jokic? Teams can't afford to just throw away money on alright players like the old days. Second Apron is destructive on team building and requires front offices to be smarter than ever in which players they allocate their money towards. Seems like the Nuggets were really only bidding against themselves. They could of gotten a better deal if they waited.

Tough to be too hard on Denver for this one, basically had to do this. Jamal actually had his best regular season yet last year and is still only 27, but the playoffs and FIBA were concerning for sure. From Denvers perspective, the last thing you want is to torpedo your season before it even begins with a lingering contract dispute.

I'm as big a Murray supporter as there is. But after the Olympics, you really have to hope that was just an injury/recovery blip. Otherwise this will be a very painful deal.

This has the potential to be the worst contract in the NBA given Murray’s injury history and feast or famine play. Crazy how the NBA is at a stage that a team like Denver HAS to do this deal.

This is an absolutely horrendous deal. Jokic should request a trade if his supporting cast is bad next year
