Usually, it's Hollywood that remakes East Asian films (and are kinda bad at doing them -- Old Boy, The Ring, My Sassy Girl to name a few). Currently watching a 2018 Japanese remake of 50 First Dates (also filmed in Hawaii) and I'm really enjoying it. Granted, I'm a forever sucker for romcoms but still!

Just finished The Perfect Couple on Netflix w/ Nicole Kidman, Liev Schreiber, Meghann Fahy, Eve Hewson (daughter of Bono, star of Bad Sisters), etc. It's a murder mystery set in Nantucket. Fun, quick watch. While you're at it, watch Bad Sisters and Hewson's movie w/ Joseph Gordon Levitt, Flora and Son (love the writer/director of this movie who brought us Once and some banger episodes from Modern Love).

Can't believe Netflix produced a movie worth your time haha. Rare W for them. Watch Rebel Ridge. You won't regret it.

Actual spoiler alert for the Perfect Couple...

Spoiler:
Were you able to guess the killer?

They didn't really give the viewer much of a chance since the financial motive wasn't revealed until like 20 minutes before the show ended, but I was still mad I got it wrong. My guess for least likely killer (and therefore the real killer) was Benji (the fiancé of Eve Hewson's character).

As far as the actual killer, I had a brief moment of suspicion in that kitchen scene in episode 1, but then quickly forgot about the thing that made me suspicious. Womp womp.

Didn't really try to guess who the killer is. Just knew it wasn't the most obvious ones.
Spoiler:
They made a mention about the trust midway into the series (maybe 3rd episode) but probably didn't elaborate for audience to make instant connection. Not sure when the pregnancy was revealed.

Anyway, fun show, right? Definitely nothing like the all-too-serious Harlan Coben mystery thrillers Netflix keeps churning out.

Hewson's about to blow up. I just know it. She already has a project lined up with Spielberg. I think she's also in that Noah Baumbach ensemble movie with Greta Gerwig. Can't wait for season 2 of Bad Sisters.

Spoiler:
Yeah I knew about the trust midway through but it wasn't until the end that I understood a new kid would reset it for 18 more years. Which was key to the motive.

Fun show for sure. I already had a thing for Meghann Fahy from the White Lotus and now I have a thing for Eve Hewson too haha. I should probably meet an actual woman at some point.

Btw, Hewson's full name is Memphis Eve Sunny Day Iris Hewson. Freakin Bono lol.

And speaking of Gerwig, I finally saw Frances Ha a few weeks ago. Pretty amazing.

Well I binge watched the first two seasons of Foundation and was ultimately disappointed. Too many improbable plot twists and people coming back to life after being killed.

Any resemblance between the TV series and Asimov's Foundation Trilogy is purely accidental. Both have a man named Hari Seldon who predicted the fall of a galactic empire. The resemblance pretty much ends there.

I haven’t read the books but I found Foundation frustratingly uneven, especially in the second season. I really liked parts of it, and was then quite bored with other parts.

I watched the first episode of Masters of the Air and was disappointed. It struck me as a so-so remake of Memphis Belle. Maybe it gets better but I'm not sure I'll watch the rest.

Sabonis looks boring. I hope everyone else can pick it up for him. I don’t follow lbj but I see things now and then, he seems like he lives a full life with his family. Edward seems full of young man energy so I’m sure he’ll be a nice watch.

First episode of The Penguin on HBO was quite good. They've got Colin Farrell done up in 12 pounds of makeup, and he's killing it, but it looks like Cristin Milioti and her big-ass eyes are going to steal the show.
