First round of the WNBA playoffs is a best of 3 with the remaining rounds a best of 5. Not sure if i like this or not. It makes the every game more important, but also takes away from a long series that can bring with it many chess moves.

Once the money starts to pour in im sure the length of series will increase.

Yep. I expect a switch to 5/5/7 pretty soon, thanks to the TV ratings.

Best 2 out of 3 for pro teams is lame, I hope next season we go to a 7 game format for all series.

But man, Chennedy is a nightmare for any team to defend (not that the Wings would be a good team to do it).
Spoon has had a hard time finding minutes for Izzy this year, and she sure looked good with extended run.

She is a handful on both ends. I expect our depth and experience to handle them but I don't expect Chicago to go down without dragging us into a dogfight.

I'm just disappointed because I wanted to see Angel bang down low with Jonquel and Stewie in a series. That would have been a great experience for her. The physicality would have been fun to watch too

Same. I like it because the games are more intense and can lead to some upsets. Obviously best of 7 is better for $$$, but also can be a long drag and boring depending on the matchup.

I realize that I am not the first to say it, but Rhyne Howard is a handful. She looks like a NBA player -- long, agile, can drive and score inside, or pull up for a 2 point shot, or hit a 3 pointer. It's very clear to me, the WNBA newbie, why she was a #1 overall pick. She's scary out there.

Ran into Jonquel and reinjured her knee. Walked with help to the locker room and didn't return.

Different, for sure, and I agree, not sure how I feel about it.

The format is also odd. 1st 2 games at higher seed. Game 3, if necessary, at the lower seed.

So, it's either a sweep, or the final game is a home game for the lower seed.

Odd, but it does sound fun.

It's so odd to me to see a format where the lower seed gets the deciding game. That's not how the NBA did things when it had a 3-game format.

Probably just a cost thing. but it is pretty weird to me as well, I think best of 5 is fine tbh for all the series, game 7 has all the glory but I feel like compared to the regular season length it might mean to many games compared to what proceeds it.

Portland expansion announcement is coming

Golden State, Toronto and Portland. Where should the league expand to next? I think we need one more to hit 16 teams.

Here is how Reese & Clark stack up among all-time WNBA rookie seasons -

Total Rebounds - Reese #1
Offensive Rebounds - Reese #1
Defensive Rebounds - Reese #1 (tied with Stewie)
Assists - Clark #1
Points - Clark #4

In addition, Clark has been the most efficient scorer of any rookie on the Top 10 scoring list, which includes such luminaries as Catchings, Candace Parker, Stewie, A'Ja, and Delle Donne.

I bet you didn't know that last bit. ;-)

Still catching up on Sunday's games (don't have much time and it's thrown off with the NFL back).

Just wanted to give a shout out to Becky Hammond for pulling a "Dean Smith" in the 3rd and almost pulling it off.

Other coaches have done it, of course, but I'll always call it a Dean Smith. Aces looked horrible. Down 20 or so early in the 3rd. Becky gets pissed off and yanks all the starters. Syd Colson and Kate Martin and the gang basically play the entire 3rd and miraculously bring the Aces back into.

And props to Colson hitting the out of her ass hook shot with the shot clock expiring.
