I don't really care whether he would be starting or not, probably more ideal off the bench but he's a microwave scorer that can really catch fire and hit a bunch of contested shots, something this team was lacking the entire tournament. He obviously has his flaws but he's also capable of winning you a game by himself in this type of format.

Mathurin still has flaws but its clear we were missing a player of his profile. Too much of the scoring burden fell on SGA.

The team probably expected Murray to come in as the starting two-guard and add that shooting threat, but it didnt work out that way. NAW deserved more minutes.

Defense is important but not surrounding Shai with more shooting going forward but would be a tremendous waste of an elite player's time with the national team.

A healthy and rested Murray & Wiggins...is all we needed.. Both proven in big games and being clutch. But it just wasn't meant to be.

Wiggins been pretty bad last season so I'm not confident.

Murray actually posted career high numbers last season and scored 30+ points in G7 against the Wolves defense, he and Jokić ran out of gas at the end and eventually lost the game and series but he did show up and play well enough to carry the team despite playing injured.

He averaged 1.5 PPG and 9 minutes with FG 16.7% in 4 Olympic games.

Yes.

It's not just that. He was getting abused on defense... brutal... totally unplayable.

Gotta respect his BB IQ, fine passing, the way he's had a long solid NBA career, and his long commitment to Canada basketball. But sadly the Raptors have acquired him too late in his career.

Good thing we're not trying to win and perhaps would benefit us to lose more games next season.

My take on this was that Kelly wasn't really extended to be a difference maker on this team. We're super young, in the process of a rebuild. He was brought into to be a good vet, a locker room presence. If he can make good passes and hit the occasional 3 - great.

But as others have said, I don't think he is playable on defence anymore, so it's going to limit his ability to do the other offensive stuff that he's decent at.

Just noticed that Michael Nwoko, someone I thought would be one of our better young big man prospects, transferred to Mississippi State for his sophomore season. Probably a good decision, as he just wasn't getting any playing time in Miami, and they tend to focus heavily on perimeter play anyway.

However, even more interesting to me is that Jeremy Foumena, another young Canadian big, also transferred to Miss St. Now they'll have to compete for playing time at their new school. Hopefully they can settle into a good tandem and develop their games in the SEC.

Yes, and the two of them will also be competing with another American sophomore for playing time. Hopefully, at least one of them is able to break through this year (both were not happy about playing time in their previous schools).

In the Fab 5 30 for 30 doc there's a similarly crazy clip of a young Chris Webber playing with and towering over normal size kids. Not that Webber was 7 feet.

Josh Primo getting a look by the Bulls

https://www.tsn.ca/nba/chicago-bulls-sign-canadian-josh-primo-to-training-camp-contract-19.85133

Hypothetical question, which I know seems unlikely - if Primo resurrected his career and became on a par with Mathurin, NAW, other Canadian guards, in the next couple seasons, would Basketball Canada give him a shot on the national team? Given his legal troubles and all, but if he put that behind him and became a good rotation player, would he get a chance?

I think he'd have to be distinguishably good. The thing with Canada Basketball is that we are pumping out talented Wings like gangbusters. Our best existing players are wings and we have a solid stockpile of them as well across the NBA/Europe/College.

This is going to sound insensitive but if he were a big man, I think he'd have a better shot at being brought into the fold...

Just saw this and figured it was worth sharing. Looks like 2027 Godson Okokoh’s stock is blowing up. Now has offers from Kansas, UCLA, USC, Creighton, among others. One to watch.

He just dropped 23/9 in 18 frigging minutes today against Indiana. I really wish we could have seen him develop here. Will be cheering for him throughout his career.

That's awesome.

I still think there is a good chance he becomes the most impactful player from this draft.

He’s in a great position in Memphis, with good guard play and JJJ there to finish games if he doesn’t immediately get adjusted defensively. But, you see, he can basically play a style similar to shaq offensively, and haven’t seen anyone be able to stop him any way yet. Excited to see wemby vs Zach.

We would have gone to the finals with him, sadly.
