Vladimir Radmanovic and Primoz Brezec. A shame they were playing during another time in the NBA where their shooting was not truly put to use and appreciated.

In all fairness, Precious did start to come back to earth.

BUT

Same with Nurse. I find it crazy that neither Darko nor Nurse could get Precious or Boucher play the actual role they should play.

Nurse and Darko's offenses don't have a role for a guy that plays defense and rebounds. In Nurse's system, you needed to run and handle the ball in transition and go at players one on one. In Darko's system, you have to be able to read the floor and process quickly to move the ball. In both systems, you have to put up the 3. They gave Precious opportunities to grow his game, but the guy just doesn't process the game well enough to be able to play in these systems.

Per 36: under Thibs, Precious put up 9 FGA (vs 14), 1.5 3FGA (vs 4), 1.6 assists (vs 3.6), 1.6 TOs (vs 2.4). His usage went down by 6%, from 21% to 14%. Great player for Thibs' system. That player doesn't have a place in a Darko system or the system Nurse was running here.

We don't know if the darko system works for anyone, given it hasn't worked at all yet so far.

Whether it works or not is another question. I'm talking about the type of players the system demands.

It's been a popular talking point on this board that "if Precious just stopped dribbling and trying to make decisions, he'd be great." My point is that Nurse and Darko's systems can't absorb a player like that into them. Precious was doing what he was asked to do. It was just too much for him.

Achiuwa was behind in BBIQ, that's why he needed work. 3 years later, not much has changed. Now he's just a bench rotation 4/5. Once someone better comes along, his career might be over. Just having athleticism isn't good enough for most players.
Organization can be defined as an organized body of people with a particular purpose. Not random.

Which is actually one of my biggest criticism of the FO (yes I criticize them) was their disconnect with nurse re: players that fit the system.

It seemed like their vision and nurses coaching strategy didn't align after the title.

I felt like Nurse was in masai's ear the whole time and the FO ended up too dependent on his input. When Nurse's influence got too large and when it was clear there was a divide due to unsatisfactory results, masai had to cut him loose. The franchise was left a bit directionless afterward and that made for a very disappointing season.
Always said that while Masai was a good management of talent and ego, he didnt have the raw basketball IQ that Pat Reilly or Brad Stevens displayed. And now we have to do the whole thing over with Darko, only he isn't as much of a junkie as Nurse was and whether his vision is on the same level remains to be seen.

Yeah he fits Thibs system better than Nick's or Darko's. I think though even in New York he needs to play 4 with a C that can shoot. So Hartenstein was a better fit for him than Robinson will be. Precious should do well as a small ball back-up C, or if they get a C who can shoot. One hope - I've seen offseason video on the Knicks board of Precious draining corner threes. That could change everything, but those offseason workout videos don't usually pan out
