Damn... sad to hear. This has gotta be the reason for all those times he took off for a "family matter"

RIP Mitchell Wiggins and thank you for raising one of the best Canadian ballers to ever play! High rizz dad.

Plenty of Mitchell Wiggins's out there right now, bringing their kids to early morning practices, scheduling work with skill coaches, and most importantly being great role models and confidantes for the young men they're raising. What an amazing dude. He can go to the grave knowing that he raised good children.

It was public knowledge that the reason why Wiggins took so much time off over "personal matter" over past couple of years was because he was back in Toronto to be with his sick dad which I never understood why he got such much hate for skipping the World Cup and then the Olympics. It's now good that he did get to spend the entire summer by his dad.

Public knowledge? I never heard or read that anywhere, certainly not on here. Had people known that he was taking time off from the Warriors or not committing to the Olympic team because his dad was sick then they would have been a lot more understanding.

Ya there were always random rumours of something going on but no one had any concrete details on this.

I doubt it. There are a few idiots still piling on him even with the news of his dad's passing.

Shams tweeted last year. Many chose to ignore it because wiggs is an easy target and rarely gets the benefit of the doubt, so things like he got paid, no heart, he's in drug rehab, or his kids aren't his, etc...took off.

Crazy. I don't even remember seeing this tweet posted. The only rumor I even remember hearing about was some silly stuff about Andrew's girlfriend/BM and I think his best friend having an affair and one of Andrew's kids not actually being his. It was some wild story.

I don't blame you. I've noticed alot of truths about Wiggins get swept under the rug. Apparently he's the nicest and one most well liked guys in a lockerroom according to players, but is insanely disliked by fans and media. Another good example was the Jimmy beef. There wasn't one, yet he got clumped along with kat who the actual issue was with.
Wiggs and jimmy hug.
=Jimmy has beef with wiggs.

Dray and iguodala says Jimmy loves wiggs.
=Jimmy has beef with wiggs

Jeff Teague recounts the practice story and says Jimmy loves wiggs on his pod.
= Jimmy hates wiggs

Wiggs apparently never repping team canada is another that gets circulated as a fact. Which we know isn't true.

It's weird.

RIP. He did what a father was supposed to do for his kids and looks like it worked out well.

Late 20s to 30s is a **** time.

People around you start dying or start to suffer from illnesses in some way. It is truly depressing. Not to mention even the young ones are dropping like flies due to cancer and all.

Yeah that was around the time it was first revealed also this article https://www.si.com/nba/warriors/news/heartbreaking-reason-for-andrew-wiggins-absence-revealed

I brought it up a couple of times before the Olympics in the thread but always gets ignored and then derailed by posters saying he’s selfish and doesn’t care.

No, he's not saying that. He is suggesting if people did know then they would be more understanding. Implicit in that statement is the not knowing leads to not being as understanding and I'm saying it doesn't have to be that way if you simply have your head on straight.

You make it sound like always assuming the best is the most rational approach, I disagree. Wiggins has publicly stated he doesn't love the game, and it's been clear for years he just wants to make a pay day. So based on that, it's a safe assumption that his performance is related to that, and not some unknown personal thing.

I am more than willing to assume the best with people I know personally, not some random athlete with red flags.

Given what we now know he had been going through for a long period of time, the assumption you made was incorrect.

Yeah if we just ignore previous statements he's made, and his past performance sure. Here's a crazy thought, it might just be more than one thing. I know, I know, it's a radical thought, that a human could possibly be more complex, than to have their entire life and personality dictated by one thing.

I'm sure you'll come around eventually.

It is impossible to quantify why he's done what he's done based on what he is going through. Given we can't do that, why would you make assumptions?
