In any event, if they don't figure out the 3rd down problems soon, then this team will not get to where they want to go.

Today's game also gave us a window into one of the big struggles the defense has dealt with in the pass, in losing contain on QB's and allowing them to do damage with their legs. Darnold isn't even a particularly mobile QB, but he converted a couple 3rd & Longs with long runs in which he had wide open spaces to roam after breaking the pocket.

Well most here along with Kyle made Wilks their SB scapegoat when it was due to the offense mishaps on the final drive. Had they won, Wilks would likely still be DC unless he wanted to leave which I wouldn't blame him and should have been the HC for the Panthers cause their defense were playing hard for him. I had already stated before the season to retain Wilks unless they can get Fangio, especially over any first time DC, too scared to make adjustments or even speak up like a noob. What I don't approve of is appeasing self serving whiners who wanted to go back to their old ways instead of doing their damn job as instructed. Wouldn't surprise me if they went around him to Kyle with their complaints during last season.

This team has become a disgraced by scapegoating, overpaying players and hold outs with no hardware to show for it.

SB loss was a team effort, and Wilks shares his responsibility for it. The offense made plenty of mistakes, but it also put us in the lead the last three times they had the ball. One defensive stop in three tries and we win that game.

I think going for it on 4th and goal was the right call, but thinking back on the game, coming away with no points there was devastating. With those points, it's a six-point game on our final drive and we need a TD to win instead of needing a TD and a FG. Not to mention that they turned that awful field position into a 97-yard TD. Ugh.

I hate when Kyle makes the right call and it completely backfires. Pushes him back into his conservative shell.

The 4th and goal was the right call. It was there too but the DE was able to tip the ball and screw it up. That TD would've been huge and changed the complexion of the game. Because despite the sloppy, uneven play and nonsense on third downs, we still had a chance to win that. Whatever. Burn the tape after film session and move on to the Rams.

I am pretty confident that if the defense gets off the field with 10 min left in the game without a long scoring drive Brock would have led the team to a game winning TD

The 49ers’ offensive line let up 17 quarterback pressures in Week 2, tying for the most by an offensive line this past week. The unit subsequently produced a 78.9 PFF pass-blocking efficiency score, ranking just 24th in the NFL this week.

Following an impressive NFL debut, rookie right guard Dominick Puni struggled in his second outing. Puni gave up three pressures, and his 49.7 PFF overall grade was the lowest on the San Francisco offensive line.

Buday added that Trent Williams was the best player on the offensive line, as expected, and said: “Williams has earned a 91.1 PFF run-blocking grade through the first two weeks of the season, leading all offensive tackles.”

For the second straight week, the “weak link” on the offensive line was center Jake Brendel, although Puni was graded the worst on the line.

The Rams did draft defensive lineman Braden Fiske, but the loss of Aaron Donald to retirement makes the matchup better for the 49ers. Kyle Shanahan spoke to the media yesterday and said the Rams’ defense, while not being led by Raheem Morris anymore, has the same looks on the defensive front and secondary.

There is familiarity with the Rams, but the 49ers offense and offensive line need to bounce back on Sunday.

I did not review the game film, but it is very hard for me to believe that Puni was worse than Brendel. Brendel was getting thrown around out there. When he blocked anyone at all.

Banks also had several instances where he just completely missed his block. From what I saw, Puni held up well outside of one bad play.
