Re: Breaking: Rogers Aquires Bell Stake In MLSE
Masai signed his new deal in Aug of 21.
If it was another 5 year deal, he only has a couple years left on it.
I think it's pretty likely he's done after his current deal, if not before it expires.

He has 2 years remaining. He lined it up with Larry's likely exit.

Yeah the Jays are run just fine from an ownership standpoint. They are one of a handful of teams paying the luxury tax, and the Jays have been on the big free agents every year since 2019. Rogers seems willing to spend on the Blue Jays without any issues. The Jays biggest issue is player development, which has nothing to do with Rogers.
Whether this is good or bad for the Raptors is another story, but Rogers hasn’t been an issue with the Jays.
Except that they've kept the management on and nobody has been fired...
I think the Jays need a front office overhaul but there was no business justification for Rogers to do anything prior to 2024. The Jays from 2020-23 had the 6th best record in baseball (1 win behind the Yankees), and had over 3 million in attendance in 2023. Now with the 2024 season going down the tubes and Shapiro’s contract ending after 2025, there might be more urgency to do something. Of course Shapiro has been the only person affiliated with the Jays who has been able to convince Rogers to invest heavily into the organization, so it’s possible they extend him.

Masai will probably end up in Seattle or Vegas when the NBA expands in 2026.

people say this, but its not like rogers has cheaped out on blue jays to my knowledge. bad decisions maybe, but not cheap.
What’s the difference?

That's a good bet, especially if Lieweke is involved with one of the projects

You think this is “fine” ownership?

Because what we've experienced over the last 5 years with this Raptors front office has been a series of incredible risk taking moves designed to put the Raptors in the position of being perennial title contenders, right?
The truth is this team has already been run safe and conservative for a half decade and we didn't need 100% Rogers ownership to get there. And everyone forgets that all Ed Rogers wanted to do was let Masai walk after his sky high contract demands and let Bobby run the team, I doubt the team would be in worse shape if Bobby had been running it the last 5 years instead of Masai, it might even be in better shape because Bobby wouldn't have held on to Pascal too long the way Masai did.

I think he’ll go with Larry and his son and buy themselves a bigger soccer team.

I’m talking about how they’ve been since Shapiro was brought on. They’ve invested heavily into the team, stadium, etc. They are not the reason the Jays are in a bad spot now. Pre-Shapiro, you’ll get no argument from me that Rogers was more of an issue.

The last time the Jays were a legit playoff team was under the management of Alex Anthopolous. Rogers drove him out of town and he went on to build a World Series team elsewhere. Look it up.
Today’s news is the nail in the coffin and I will be looking for a new team to support as I know what it means. Mediocrity and unlikable ownership.
EDIT: Here’s the article on the Jays previous manager leaving due to the way the team was run from above.

Ed’s inability to hire good senior talent due to his need for yes men to stroke his ego and play his political games has nothing to do with the lack of success for the team despite the money that’s been poured into it?

Re: Breaking: Rogers Aquires Bell Stake In MLSE
Anyone who thought Masai wasn't gone when his contract ended was being pretty delusional. It pretty much lined up perfectly with Larry's rumoured exit. Ed Roger is an absolute clown, but Masai was leaving with Larry, and Larry didn't want to stay anymore.
We got a chip and that was awesome, but the last few years have felt more like BC years than anything, so I don't see it getting much worse. The real question for me, is that with it being so obvious that Masai is gone in a year or two, how hard does he lean into this "chase the play in" re-tool.

The over-the-top negativity and "Masai is gone and I know his future career trajectory" is really ridiculous and insufferable. The same over-the-top negativity and "Masai is gone and I know his future career trajectory" was out in full force when his previous contract was ending and of course it was completely wrong. There's a few in particular who think they know everything and that every thought or idea which pops into their heads will become a guaranteed reality and this thread will become a giant echo chamber of endless negativity.
I wouldn't be surprised if Masai ends up being our Pat Riley and is in for the long haul.
