Does the current stadium or the site in Camden have transport links, like light rail or metro?

It sounds like the owner will try to leverage the offer from Camden to make Philadelphia/PA offer him big tax credits to stay in Philly and PA.

I don't believe Chase and the Intuit Dome received any public funding but the Bucks' arena received like $200 million in various subsidies and funds from the state and county.

Philly is the #4 media market in the country so I wouldn't think the team would move, whereas the Bucks had a more credible threat of moving.

Based on your team icons do you live in the bay? I am aq transplant from Philly to Oakland for the last 5 years or so. Camden and Philly is probably pretty similar to crossing the bay bridge. Not super far in distance but on the other hand traffic will be a nightmare and a short trip in miles will take forever in actual travel time. Figure almost like how the proposed Howard Terminal Ballpark for the A's from a few years ago (Jack London Square) to where the Giants play at Oracle park.

Cool, that helps understand.

There are no public transport links? Like the Oakland Coliseum had a BART station, whereas PacBell, there is a transit station but only from other parts of San Francisco. You have to take CalTrain and then switch to some other service I believe.

The downtown location they're talking about, maybe you can take the subway to that, instead of driving and dealing with parking?

There's a PATCO line from Philly to Camden but the closest stop is pretty far from the proposed site. Then on top of that it has the issue it sounds like the Coliseum has that PATCO itself also has pretty limited stops in Philly and you would have to walk to find another public transport.

The downtown location has a subway line directly under it, it also has all of the regional rail lines go under it which stop at the main city hubs and then go out to the suburbs (IDK what the bay area equivalent is but it's like Metro North/LIRR/NJT in NY).

Camden would have been worse relative to the current stadium complex for basically everyone that doesn't live in NJ, and even then I'm sure there's people that live further south in NJ that it would have been less convenient for.

Glad they're staying though didn't really ever think Camden was happening.

It needs city council approval. But if she gets that, then yes, the arena will be a reality.

That is, in essence, the people making it happen because the people elected these officials into office.

Hell yeah, I’m pumped to just walk over to a game instead of taking Septa all the way down there.

Is the city, county or state giving any public funds or things like tax abatements?

Was there some organized NIMBY opposition?

Walk over to a game or conference or concert . Walk out you your favorite restaurants and bars or better yet, public transit to your favorite neighborhood bar and restaurant. These centralized arenas are terrific overall for the cities on a macro level.

MSG showed everyone how to do this years ago. A better entertainment area and girls will come too. If the city is smart they should dissuade parking from non residents in the area and push transit. Which is actually very easy to do

He's equating concerns about gentrification and displacement with NIMBYism. In other words, he has no idea what he's talking about.

Yes there was plenty of NIMBY and other opposition. Thankfully better sense has prevailed and that has been overcome.

The entire project is privately funded and will revitalize a struggling area of the city. Finally, Philadelphia will have the same awesome gameday (and other event day) experience that all the other major NE corridor cities have.

One of the biggest complaints I see on Twitter is the idea that all 4 teams won't be together in one enormous, soulless parking lot anymore where, if you're not among the masses drunk driving home, you're standing outside the one Septa station for 45 minutes.

It's a real shame it'll be turned into a nice experience and that part of town will have a major facelift.

I don't understand if it's gaslighting, or if these clowns really believe having all the stadiums surrounded by nothing but a sea of parking lots in an industrial wasteland is really that amazing.

Is the owner planning to host a lot of non basketball or non NBA events, like concerts?

So take events from existing venues?

Definitely. Which is why the multi-billion dollar corporation that owns the current (and only) arena in the city, Comcast, has been spending millions lobbying against this new arena.

The opposition NIMBYs et al are just useful idiots for Comcast.

It's a 24-minute regional rail ride for me (if I catch the express, which I usually do) to Jefferson Station vs. 60 minute (if I'm lucky) ride to the current location. I'm all about this move for my favorite team in this city. hope I just live long enough to see it happen :D
