I didn't realize it was an Exhibit 9 deal so he could still be waived before the start of the season I assume. He could just be an extra body for training camp or maybe the Knicks just wanted to protect themselves against him possibly getting injured in the summer. Apparently Exhibit 9 contracts have a clause that only requires the player to be paid $15,000 that doesn't count against the salary cap if the player is injured and waived before the start of the regular season. Shamet does have a bit of an injury history.

It looks like only 3 players on Exhibit 9 contracts made the opening day roster last season. One of them was Ryan Arcidiacono and these contracts still aren't fully guaranteed until some time in January.

Same thing Okeke is on, right?

Figure the Knicks will let there be a training camp competition for the last roster spot or two between Okeke, Shamet, Toppin, McCullar, and even Dadiet and Kolek, though they are probably G league bound at first.

I think Okeke is on an Exhibit 10 deal which has the flexibility of being converted into a 2-way contract or a standard minimum deal.

Yeah, seems odd they don't pick a center up. Mitch will miss games and Sims is passable for 5-10 minutes. I do like Precious picking up as a small ball center but we need another true center. The draft pick Hukporti doesn't look like an NBA player. I'd bring in Biyombo as the emergency center. He's no good on offense and can't hit a FT, defense is at least passable.

Only logical if they have a plan to trade or are committed to small ball.

Going small should be fine with the forwards this team has, but by the deadline/buyout season Leon has to add another 7 footer for Embiid, and or possibly Jokic god willing the Knicks make the finals

Don't feel like we need Shamet that much. He would take away from McBride's minutes

McBride may only be 6'2 tall, but his 6'9 wingspan makes him at SG/SF.

Getting Mitch back is our biggest need right now. We miss his defensive dominance and elite offensive rebounding.
