After two weeks, Cowboys Defensive Tackle ratings (out of the top 125);

Osa Odighizuwa - 119th
Linval Joseph - T-117th
Jordan Phillips - 124th
Mazi Smith - 123rd

So there’s that.

It has to be the scheme & poor technique with that many guys underperforming. New Orleans saw something on film. Which falls back on coaching.

The Saints OC is from the Shanahan tree. It's a tough scheme to stop. A lot of teams aren't prepared for it early on in the season. We saw how badly the Jets struggled in week one. Philly had the same issues with Atlanta.

As is the GB head coach. And as you know, the Cowboys didn’t handle the Packers very well back in January. Nor the Niners last season.

See a trend?

I didn't even know that.

I was hoping Zimmer was smarter than Dan Quinn but I am starting to have doubts early. Looks like Zimmer was committed to playing Liufau on running downs and mostly used Overshown on 3ird down and passing downs. That obviously didn't work. And where in the hell did they get that Jordan Phillips guys from? He is putrid.

According to Zimmer they spent most of the game in their base defense which Overshown is not part of. The reason he’s not part of it is because he missed two weeks at the end of camp and hasn’t practiced their base defense at all. He said they did not expect to play so much base defense. They practiced in the Nickle and dime the majority of the week and expected to be in the nickle defense most of the game (which they weren’t). So basically they were not prepared to play this game.

Keep in mind that both Joseph and Phillips were sitting on the sofa 2 weeks ago. They picked both of those guys off the street.

The defensive line is an absolute joke but Osa was the one bright spot, he is more a blitz guy but was starting to be a force in stopping the run too. I hope he can get it back together, not sure what has happened to him.

It’s crazy but they actually have been trying to fix the DT spot for a few years now. They’ve tried signed older guys that were once good, they’ve brought in journeyman at the position, and they have spent high value picks on the position, and all have basically failed. The only thing they haven’t done is sign a higher dollar FA to fill the position.

Sounds like Phillips will be back in his sofa soon with a nice parting check from the owner.

True it has been a while that they’ve been trying to fix the DT position. Ratliff was the last dominant DT Dallas has had right? I was referring to just since McCarthy has been here.

Gerald McCoy, Donteri Poe, Carlos Watkins, Hankins, Mazi Smith, the two guys we have now, and Carlos Watkins (again). This is just since MM has been here.

Do you think they will trade for a DT like they did with Hankins?

Big Hank seems like a solid guy.

He was well liked here. Hated to see him go. He could play.

Do I think they’ll trade for another DT? Kinda leaning toward “No” unless it’s a last resort. Still think (as Mr. B noted) Osa will be fine. I just don’t think Maxi will pan out and who knows about Hoskins. Joseph appears to be done unless he has something we haven’t seen yet. Phillips is just terrible.

What were the positives here? Not many that's for sure. Schoon had 6 catches so I guess he is decent in the absence of Ferg. And yeah, that's all I can think of. Literally everyone else sucked. It actually was very reminiscent of the Green Bay playoff game where the defense couldn't stop a damn thing and then Dak is out there forcing throws that end up INTs.

The only thing I can say is that I do think NO is actually a great team, will for sure be in the playoffs. But I don't think that helps us knowing that we can't beat great teams. Oh well, none of us thought we were taking a step forward this season.

Depends. How many guys were there? Oh, you mean the game,
