I think it is the opposite. It neuters their arguments, because lots of gun owners want gun reform. Not every person who owns weapons believes in handing out weapons and bump stocks like candy is the answer. There are still plenty of people who are left of center on social issues who are gun owners who would also shoot a home invader dead. This comment will not hurt her and it may help her.

You overestimate the intelligence of the American electorate and underestimate the effectiveness of Republican propaganda. Reality doesn't matter, narratives matter. Dems are bad for the economy and anti-gun. No amount of data or bragging about being a gun owner is gonna change that. All it does is make it more depressing for people who want actual reform because it signals that neither of our options want to actually change things

I see it a bit differently. Gun ownership is often seen as a touch point topic for right wingers but the reality is, people from all sides of the spectrum own guns. It's just that GOPers made it weird with their obsession of treating guns as an extension of their penises and apart of their political identity. Most people who own aren't posing for Christmas photos with their guns, in fact you're not gonna know that they have it until they have to use it.

Harris has owned guns since her DA days. Tim Walz owns guns because he hunts. I think saying hey, I'm a Democrat and I believe in gun ownership and common sense gun laws isn't necessary to court right wing votes but people who veer towards the middle or undecided (I know, I know, undecided at this point is just idiocy, but still) might be listen and say yeah, I can get down with that. I don't think "if you try to enter my home, I will shoot you" is strictly a right wing position. I absolutely believe in that position and I'm pretty liberal

Also, I think after seeing what happened to Nancy Pelosi's husband, Kamala is basically saying come f*ck around and find out.

These "in the middle" and "undecided" people cannot be swayed by facts and reason. This is the mistake Dems always make, they think these people are all perfectly rational individuals who they just need to swing to the right to pick up

They're not. They're morons, people who pay the least attention but think they're the most informed. You can't reason with them, they're not voting on policy. If they did vote on policy, they would already have made up their minds. They vote on vibes and how their personal bank account is doing. Nothing Kamala can say will sway them.

It's possible. I was just saying to DOT though that I don't think what she said is exclusively a right wing position.

The gun narrative in this country has been perverted to where folks really think that people who veer left wards politically and socially are a bunch of pacifists that won't defend their homes with guns. That's not the case. At all.

My Dad owned a gun for decades and I never knew because he kept it locked away well and he's pretty center-left. It was only til we were moving stuff around during some remodeling that I found out.
