Top 5 Players in the NBA

Post#1 » by The KnicksFix » Fri Sep 13, 2024 2:25 am

I’d say in no particular order
Steph, Lebron, Giannis, Jokic

Now here’s where it gets interesting, you have Luka, KD, Brunson, Embiid

In overall importance to team and franchise, and that includes team chemistry and making others around him better, right now I think you have to take Brunson over Luka or Embiid
I’d say Brunson wins a ring before Embiid or Luka does

Embid is so over-rated - always injured; always b*tching. Like Trump (not to mention the dirty plays),

Steph and then JB are the best non-giants.

Is Brunson a top 10 player based on his body of work?

He's played well enough for long enough now that the conversation shouldn't be discounted or called homerism.

Not sure if he's there yet or not but arguments could be made.

Top 20 for sure, I'd say.

Brunson plays in the biggest market with the heaviest jersey and has put up Jordan level numbers in the playoffs. He's top 5.

Brunson has been consistently clutch and has put the team on his back so many times I believe he is easily a Top 10 player now.

How many other players would you rather have the ball with the game on the line?

Not many. Brunson is the best PG in the league imo.

My top 5 is Joker, Giannis, Luka, Embiid, and SGA. After that, I think Brunson is absolutely in the top 10 conversation, I just wanted to see what the forum thought.

I didn't mean that he's not top 10 or even possibly top 5. I just don't really think about those kinds of lists, so my comment was more along the lines of "Brunson has been so good, he's up there league wise, just not going to think where"

Interesting times too, as there's kind of transition away (there always is) from established stars like LeBron and Curry, who are still great, just not as great as they were, and the rise of guys like SGA, Tatum, Edwards and Brunson.

Also, remember very early when the Knicks got Brunson, the conversations were along the lines of "Well, we aren't sure that he's a star, but he sure seems to possess all the star qualities of being dominant, clutch, elevates the team, unstoppable 1v1 etc etc"

Now, I get the "star" moniker is largely about marketing, but Brunson is routinely referred to as a star by both Knick fans, opposing fans and the media.

I've heard the "superstar" word get used for him as well. A bit much? Who knows. Again, it's marketing. I know on the board people get caught up in the semantics of what a "superstar" is. Are they generational players? Only a few can be in the league at once. I suppose big enough that the player transcends the game fame wise or that even the most casual fan knows.

I don't think Brunson is one, yet, but the phrase has been used.

Steph and Lebron were at times, last few years, the best players in the league, but I don't think either one is top 5 now, and I'm not sure they're top 10. . . and if they are, just barely.

Luka's really good. I don't like him, but he's in the top 5 conversation. Embiid is tough to rank. He strikes me as a stat padder and he misses so many games.
