I think Queta rolls into town with a legit 3 ball this year….I am losing the word legit loosely.

I too agree he will legitimately have a loose 3 ball.

I am a big Queta guy. I think the most impressive parts of his game so far is his passing and his ability to set screens without fouling. Though he is not bad at scoring and rebounding, I hope he takes another step up in those parts of his game as well as defensive positioning.

Queta is a grown man this year, no longer in that man-child status. At 24, it's his time I think.
I have high expectations for him, and for Springer. If they improve their shooting, I can see both get some extended bench minutes at times.

Re: Welcome to Boston, Neemias Queta! – (Signs 3-yr deal w/Celtics)
For me Queta has to still get boards without half of them coming off his own misses. If he can improve his finishing and be more active on the defensive glass with marginal improvements in the other areas I'm perfectly fine with that out of a backup/3rd string big.
Then if this is Luke's last go around Queta can come in the following season with those intangibles, screen setting, lobs beyond the easy ones against 3rd string scrubs, Timelord-lite passing, and he can be ready to be a spot-starter even. We might need it with Al's age, Zinger's health, and salary cap restrictions.

None of the Miami pickups are champs and some of them have moved on to other teams already or flamed out entirely.

Gotta give ‘em credit with Strus and Robinson but Celtics aren’t bettered by anyone in that category now with Hauser and Kornet and optimistic on Queta, who I was very late to the band wagon on.
Does seem a bit of a trend on who these guys are though.

Good things happened last season when Queta played. While on the floor the team was minus more than 5 in only one game. He just had a positive effect out there.

Small sample size, but the on/off stats actually say he was our most impactful offensive player, and by a good margin (ignoring Drew Peterson's +17)

Like Brad said, when he was with the right group he could help the team stay at a very high level. Paraphrasing obviously.

Take with a grain of salt but basketball reference per/36 projection for Queta. 17/11/1.8/1.2 with .584 FG%, and .369 3% on 1.6 attempts per 36.

He is what he is!
He'll be okay as a backup,
get massacred by starting centers and talented Bigs,
and won't overtake Kornet or likely Tillman either...

Yes, I like Kornet and Tillman, but Queta has legitimate upside. It is really hard on the 2nd apron to add talent. With KP out they need to use time to develop Queta.brackdan70 wrote:Take with a grain of salt but basketball reference per/36 projection for Queta. 17/11/1.8/1.2 with .584 FG%, and .369 3% on 1.6 attempts per 36.

Brad Stevens on fans who want the Celtics to tank: "I don’t think they’ll like me all that much then."

Re: Welcome to Boston, Neemias Queta! – (Signs 3-yr deal w/Celtics)
It's crazy to think how much of an impact timing has on success and failure in pro sports. Queta went from just riding pine to being on a championship squad, to now getting the opportunity to be a developmental player getting serious minutes over the next few years for the best team in the league. What an awesome break for a relatively unknown player.
I find him to be such a fascinating player and signing because we usually always have a center like him on the roster since Brad started coaching. Theis, Steimsma, Bayne, Williams, ect. Those guys absolutely maximized their talents under Brad and the gang, and it seems that role fills a specific niche that Stevens loves. The Matt Howard role
Getting the extention/contract means Brad thinks he's going to be that Theis level player, and that excites me.
What does that look like for this team? Theis was always a fan favorite, off the rip, and gave us a solid 7/5 coming off the bench with a block and spacing out to 3. He was able to start in a pinch, and genuinely would have been a staple rotation piece in the NBA if not for his injuries. It will be interesting to see if Queta can become nearly as disruptive as Theis was on those teams, blocking shots, hitting 3's, and just playing solid team defense.
On this team, if Queta does that, most nights he can mess around and find himself with an easy Dbl-Dbl. I'm expecting about 18-20 minutes a game this year from him, a handful of starts, and a solid 8-8-2 stat line, similar to Robs. Celtic's haven't been wrong on these guys since Brad came in, so we'll see. Having him signed through his early prime is going to be nice for the team going foward.
It will make trading KP for a FRP and 10th man type so much more palatable next year if we know we already have a starter level replacement on the roster.

I'm in FL and as much as I respect Spo as a coach the media heads down here are infatuated with him. Take away Bam right now with that roster for a good chunk of the season and that team will be terrible. Teams that have 1 superstar can win games and Bam is a bonafied superstar. Great late lottery pick.
Boston having multiple superstars will lead to lack of minutes for most of the bench. It would be nice now since players are locked up that minutes can be spread around more to keep guys healthy and fresh. The KP situation should hopefully open up opportunities for Neemias.
Miami does a good job finding under the radar guys and adding some development. But the key is they give them minutes. Strus and Duncan had a year of dipping their toes in the water year one in miami but were given heavy minutes each year after. Duncan was a starter for 90% of his second season. So yes, they do a good job developing and finding talent but playing time is huge. Their problem is drafting in the middle each year and having a unhealthy Butler each season. If you don't hit, you better hope you can develop some guys and deepen your rotation. I'm interested to see what Ware can develop into, but passing on Knecht can come back and bite them.
There's alot more leeway in Miami with the Heat then there is in Boston. Expectations aren't as high. They have been crucified for the Herro selection and the crazy deal they gave him. But that 19' draft was terrible for pretty much every team. Also the Rozier experiment hasn't panned out either.

Would be impressed if he can maintain his 16.7% offensive rebounding rate spending time beyond the arc. BTW, if Queta can maintain that % while playing 72 more games for the Cs, he will be the franchise leader in OREB%. Leon Powe is currently 1st with 15.2% (Timelord 2nd).
