these stories are so ridiculous that I am beginning to believe that they are planted stories from the knicks.

Unless they want Mikal to be ahead of Randle in pecking order, it makes no sense for him to come off the bench.

Where is this stuff coming from? It's strange, indeed.

It makes sense when you think they may want to start Hart and OG together. If Manu can come off the bench Randle isn't too good for it.

True, but who are "they"?... as in those who envision this?

Because Thibs seems obsessed with Randle and would never do anything to make him feel like anything less than an entitled, spoiled brat.

And regardless of what Randle says, he would not be happy coming off the bench, especially when he is trying to prove that he is worth getting paid top dog type of money.

I think Tom loves Hart more than any player on the roster, that's the guy he wanted and pushed the FO to trade for, he is the living embodiment of a Thibs guy. The Hart/OG pairing in the playoffs was like a dream come to life for Tommy.

If he's not fine with coming off the bench he shouldn't be on the team, Mitch came off the bench, Donte is going to come off the bench, Hart is fine coming off the bench. He'd get paid all the same if we won a title and he's the 6th man, if the team looks better with Hart/OG and advanced stats play out that way they're going to move him. So, he should consider all options.

Randle isn’t getting benched. He’s basically Thibs favorite player and is the first one to defend him to the media every time

"Getting benched" suggests punishment or being shelved.

What's being discussed is Randle accepting a role where he'd still get 30+ minutes, just wouldn't be in the starting lineup. Guys are comparing the move to Ginobili, whose role was legendary.

Still don't think it happens because Thibs is scared of Randle and he has a fragile ego.

We went 11-1 with OG Randle and Brunson starting together. Makes no sense basketball wise to bench him. Glad Thibs isn’t doing it because he wants us to win.

It's like when people said to bench/trade Randle so Obi can start and we all see how he lost his starting job in Indiana.

Knicks went 8-1 in the reg season without Randle, but with OG and Brunson. So that's that.

Knicks went 6-2 in the playoffs against the league's best teams, when it mattered most, without Randle, but with OG and Brunson.

Add Mikal, and the Knicks can play just as fluid, fast, with even more spacing, and even more defensive intensity, without ball-stopping or sacrificing scoring.

I can def see the argument for Randle as the super sub.

"Technically, the best move for Julius Randle would probably just be going from the New York Knicks' starting five to the bench," Bailey writes. "Obviously, he's a starting-level talent, but New York stumbled into something magical with Jalen Brunson as a heliocentric playmaker surrounded by shooting and defensive versatility. OG Anunoby and Mikal Bridges probably aren't as good as Randle in a vacuum, but they fit that mold a little better. And as the primary ball-handler and scorer against reserves, Randle could absolutely feast."

8-1 without Randle in the starting lineup. 6-2 on the biggest stage. Knicks would be better if he were in the Ginobili role.

Glad Thibs and Leon are following what analytics say to make the team better
Although Brunson has always been in a different stratosphere as a playoff performer, Randle has been roughly his equal during the regular season. Last season, over the 30 games before he got injured, Randle averaged 26.3 points, 9 rebounds and 4.9 assists per game on 61.2 percent True Shooting. And during the abbreviated, pre-injury, post-Anunoby trade stretch, Randle was even better, playing the best ball of his career. [/size]He moved quickly and decisively and rediscovered his previously truant jumper. When Randle and Anunoby shared the court, the Knicks outscored opponents by 24.6 points per 100 possessions.

Glad the Knicks didn't jump the gun and extend Randle! Let's see how the Brunson-heliocentric model works with the addition of Mikal! Might have to trade Randle or let him walk.

OG : $$ Extended

Brunson: $$ Extended, named Captain, entered Knick deity status.

Mikal: $$ Broke the bank to get Brunson his running mate; extension on deck.

Randle: Image

So glad the Knicks haven't jumped the gun on a Randle extension! Brunson's team now...must stay flexible for trades, signings, and building sustainable success!

i think last season was our first look at prime randle. everything before he was still workshopping his game, often to our frustration. he finally put it together, and it was only cut short because of a dirty play by the cHeat

surrounded by everything else we have he can be that talent factor that pushes us over the top. yes jb benefits from our 3pt shooting and defensive versatility, but randle might become literally unstoppable in that scenario. he'll have 3 bonafide options to kick it out to for 3!! oh man i can't wait

Leon saw those results in January and double downed on it with Mikal as that 3rd option to feast on open looks. Randle is about to make his 3rd All NBA team and it will be glorious

Leon saw the results of the Brunson-heliocentric Knicks model in the playoffs and doubled down by giving up a superstar package for Brunson's man Mikal weeks later, paying OG superstar money, and giving Brunson the keys to the franchise.

Randle's future on the Knicks is uncertain. No sort of extension offer. Talks of Randle coming off the bench. January 11-1 is cute, but so is 8-1 OG/Brun reg season without him....what's more telling is destroying the Sixers using the Brunson-Heliocentric model without Randle, then en-route to sweeping the Pacers without Randle til OG went down.

Hoping Randle does well, because the Knicks will have success if he does. Would rather the Knicks re-sign him for cheap or trade him if they don't extend him. letting him walk to Brooklyn for nothing is dumb.
