Jaylen Brown Cleared Air With Derrick White After USA Basketball Roster Decision

After Jaylen Brown publicly responded to the decision by USA Basketball to select Derrick White as the replacement on its Olympics roster instead of him, Brown texted his Boston Celtics teammate to make sure he knew it was not personal against him.

USA Basketball had decided to bring White to Paris after Kawhi Leonard was deemed not healthy enough to play.

Brown averaged 7.9 points and 4.1 rebounds for Team USA in the 2019 World Cup under Gregg Popovic. Sources said there were some questions about his ball movement and decision making. 

Brown was critical on social media multiple times, revealing that the decision hurt him.

"That's who Jaylen is," one team source said. "He is not afraid to speak his mind. Jaylen has a constant chip on his shoulder and sees doubters everywhere."

The only person who you'd need to address it with is Mario Chalmers. Everyone knows it was a silly decision. If Charles Barkley could be on the original Dream Team, I don't see how JB shouldn't be the third Celtic.

No, I’m saying that if “I am not a role model, and I missed a heckler and spat on a kid” Charles Barkley can be on the Dream Team, then JB’s accomplishments should have secured him a spot.

I’m sure he’d have been selected if he hadn’t cut the logos off his shoes, so on the other hand it serves him right. For him to think that he could protest the Nike “machine” and then turn around and think that the same brand should elevate him to the highest stage is either hubris of Biblical proportions, or the definition of lacking self-awareness. There’s an old Jamaican saying that “you can’t sit on cow skin and cuss cow”… ignoring the leather analogy, JB’s beef is incredibly misguided.

It was not a silly decision. We knew Bron/Curry/KD were getting the major minutes. And Booker/Edwards are getting the major SG minutes. We already saw 1 Celtic(Tatum) pouting and not talking to the media because he wasn't getting minutes. Imagine Brown sitting on the bench and publicly blaming Grant Hill/Nike for not playing.

I don't understand it at all, it's not White's fault. If he has a problem he has to go after Kerr and others who actually made the decision. Feel bad for White, dude is just out there trying to do his best, which is what every player is supposed to do.
