Where is Al Horford ranking all time among Boston Celtics centers?

The generalist website ranker has a surprisingly exhaustive ranked list of all time Cs centers. How exhaustive, you ask?

Zaid Abdul-Aziz was the 50th best Celtics center that made the list, lol

What a fun read:

https://www.ranker.com/list/best-boston-celtics-centers/ranker-nba

But, to the point, ranker.com says Al Horford is the 6th best center in Celts history.

I wouldn't rank him above any of the ones above him. Maybe over Walton in terms of his Celtic Career. Would you rank him above Garnett if he wins another chip?

I had to vote for Rob Williams so he wasn't below Tacko on the list!
We won it for Al!!!

Only one player in NBA history has won the title playing 20+ mpg in his 18th season or later -- Kareem Abdul-Jabbar. Horford has a chance to join him this upcoming season.

There's some serious name recognition bias there. The first two examples that jumped out at me were Tacko Fall and John Thompson.

And popularity too. Mark Blount is the very last name on the list. ;)

I would love to see an "Al Versus Time"-style documentary in which he infuses his championship DNA into this franchise. Psyched to see him try to run it back for another ring!

It's a goofy list... Tacko Fall above Tony Battie.

It is a goofy list. It’s just surprising that it’s 68 players deep, on that site especially. It’s definitely an intentional dig that Mark Blount is 68th and last, lol

As pertains the actual rankings, I think Al has a good claim on 4th best center in C’s history.

Obviously Bill Russell is first. Then Parish and Cowens. KG ultimately played primarily as a PF as did McHale. Walton had one year though it was a spiritually perfect year, it’s still just one year.

Cowens has two rings and a league MVP played 10 years and is way ahead on career statistics, so to make a case Horford passed Cowens into top 3 center, Al needs another ring or two with this team. Ultimately, Dave Cowens place as an all-time top three center may be safe no matter what, but Horford (esp. if we repeat this year) makes a strong case for 4th best at worst, which is an amazing legacy for Big Al.

Only three players in NBA history have shot 50%+ from the field, 40%+ from 3, and 85%+ from FT line in NBA history (minimum 60 games) in their age 35 season or later -- Steve Nash (35 yo), Kevin Durant (35 yo), and Al Horford (47 yo).

If being that efficient at a late age were that easy, more players would've done it.

Al Horford currently holds the most efficient shooting performance in a 37-yo season or later (min. 500 points) in NBA history at 65.0 TS%. Robert Parish is 2nd at 63.7% at same age.

• Al Horford can put pressure on Larry Bird on the Celtics’ all-time 3-pointers made list this season. He is 52 3-pointers shy of passing Bird (649 3-pointers) for No. 7 on Boston’s all-time. Last season, Horford made 108 3-pointers and last made less than 60 3-pointers in a season in 2020-21, when most of his season was lost due to injury.

Al Horford has won at least a playoff series against every Eastern conference team except the four he has never faced: Knicks, Raptors, Hornets and Pistons. I'm gonna need those organizations to pull it together so they can take their long overdue beating.

Return to Boston Celtics
