Cavs / Rockets pt 2

Post#1 » by JJ_PR » Tue Sep 24, 2024 7:56 pm

Cavs get: Jaylon Tyson
Rockets get: Tari Eason

Why?
Cleveland gets a wing.
Rockets get a solid prospect.

The Rockets pass here but the Cavs front office hopes that Tyson might be able to provide the needed upgrade at SF while still on his rookie deal and you're putting him in every trade proposal.

Eason has shown some really interesting stuff in the regular season, Tyson has shown interesting stuff in summerleague. Eason has better physical tools, Tyson has more years of team control. I think Eason has more value around the league and to Houston.

Rockets pass.

6 months ago, if you were to have offered the #20 pick in the 2024 draft for Eason, the answer would have been a resounding NO. Despite summer league performance, putting a name to that pick does little to nothing to change that valuation and response.

To be fair, he's a late pick who's value is likely going to be highest as a lottery ticket. There's zero reason for HOU to give up a proven player, but if they were willing this would be a no brainer for CLE.

I like Eason, but I have real concerns that he's never going to develop into a two-way player and I'm cautiously optimistic about Tyson on that front. If the Cavs were to trade for Eason, they'd almost have to trade one of Allen or Mobley. Also, Eason and Okoro can never be on the court together, which if Eason can start, wouldn't necessarily be a huge issue, but we're talking about a player who came off the bench for a lottery team last year.
