ESPN didn't deserve Lowe in the first place. Hopefully he goes somewhere watchable, I like Lowe a lot, but not enough to start watching ESPN garbage.

Re: ESPN lays off Zach Lowe
People say they want smart analytical writing but idk if that's actually true. I imagine the engagement with a Zach Lowe article pales in comparison to the responses a dumb Perkins' take gets.
ESPN probably saw that Lowe's primary content was podcasts and writing which don't generate the revenue required to pay his large salary.

He's their #1 or #2 basketball podcast any given week. His writing is behind a paywall so if it's not monetizing well, that's partly on ESPN. And he's a regular on NBA Today.
But I agree with you, ESPN is giving the people what they want. Lowe tried to meet ESPN where they are by dumbing down his content, sticking mostly to ESPN guys on his pod, and playing the TV game. But the one thing he didn't do was peddle his influence and connections with coaching staff and front office guys for scoops. That's why Windhosrt gets elevated and Lowe gets laid off, despite Lowe being 100x more knowledgeable when it comes to basketball.

Re: ESPN lays off Zach Lowe
Bill Simmons put it best on his podcast. ESPN as a company seems to be moving away from real journalism and analysis to becoming more TikTok/Youtube friendly. That means Zach's written analysis/podcast takes/on-air analysis doesn't fit with that. Too bad. Zach and KOC are the only 2 NBA guys I enjoy listening to because they actually watch games that are necessarily associated with the Lakers/Lebron/frontrunners at the moment and often times the things they notice are not congruent with the casual fan who just wants to know how many points LeBron or Steph scored.
ESPN with Stephen A, Perk, Pat McAfee as their big name personalities is turning their on-air content into what's equivalent to sports entertainment like WWE. I have ZERO interest in them talking about JJ Redick's job being on the line if the Lakers are sub .500 after 20 games. I have ZERO interest in them talking about whether Bronny deserves a spot in the rotation because they want to see him appear on the court with his dad. That **** is lowest common denominator level of sports talk and is unbecoming of the major media rights holder of the NBA. I want Zach Lowe content which is more balanced and nuanced analysis than Perk and Shannon Sharpe screaming at the TV about how great LeBron is.

I'm totally 100 percent serious when I say they should absolutely replace Alvin with Lowe. It would be so much more entertaining.
