Not sure how reliable this is. Murphy seems like a pipe dream and I'm not sure why NOP would trade him. Kuminga seems like a realistic target, and although not my favorite target, he would be another good and different player to have on the roster.

It feels like Kuminga will be the guy. Don’t think Eason will be available, and Moody doesn’t really fit imo. Murphy would cost a lot but would be an amazing addition.

I haven’t look at our cap going forward, but would we be able to re-sign a player like this? I couldn’t see dumping our remaining assets for a rental, but maybe.

Sure, they'd just be a second apron team going forward and have to deal with everything that comes with that. Better be the right guy!

Yeah I can't say I would want to go into the second apron for these guys they are listing. Right now we are right at the first apron limit, and I don't think any of these guys would put us over the top for a ring.....so why do it?

Plus we would be giving up all our assets for these guys and all the penalties that come with the second apron. Candidly, it gives something for us to talk about, but I wouldn't do it unless we are in a desperate situation before the deadline. If they do it, like said above, they better get the right guy cause the wrong one will cost us now and in the future.

Murphy I think you have to. He's really good and also seems like a great kid. Kuminga is a huge question mark so of course he's probably the most likely person it will come down to.

There’s never been a time in history when we look back and say that the people who were censoring free speech were the good guys.

Maybe we can package McCain + KJ for Eason + Tate?

Maxey/Lowry/Jackson
Martin/Gordon/Council
George/Oubre/Tate
Eason/Yabusele/(buyout)
Embiid/Drummond/Bona

Since we’re trying to win a championship and not a social media contest.

I think there's a relatively high chance that McCain gets traded this year, but I don't think would be the deal.

If Houston was OK for a deal like this, I'd rather just trade KJ or McCain (+ assets of course) for Eason. Then you can try to flip the other one with assets attached for a better player than Tate. If anything, I'd look for a $8M - #12M player better player than Eason if we are going to package KJ + McCain for.

We can't even trade KJ until January, right? Kinda seems like they're just throwing obvious names out there that fit the salary slot.

I don't think Kuminga makes sense here as a midseason target. He doesn't have a plug and play game, particularly for this team. Plus this just seems like kind of a sink or swim season for him, so he's either going to be thriving, in which case I don't think they trade him, or struggling, and I'm that much less interested.

Murphy on the other hand... Not tough to fit in high end off ball guys. He'd fit like a glove both now and long-term. And if the Brandon Ingram thing remains in limbo, his opportunity does as well with that team.

Yeah. And I assumed trading our remaining assets would be an overpay for a player with a few years on a cost controlled contract. They say how difficult it is to have three max contracts in today’s NBA, and now we are looking at guys due max contracts. I would be surprised to handcuff ourselves like that, but I guess if we can afford it.

That's a great point and probably a better way to maximize our assets.

You could try for, i.e., McCain + 1st for Eason and KJ + two 1sts for Murphy. We become a 2nd apron team next year because of Murphy's extension, but I think that core is worth it.

Oubre probably wouldn't be retainable long-term in this scenario, but I can live with that.

Kuminga would be super damn interesting.

Admittedly, he's not a "between the ears" guy. However, neither was Oubre and he's found a way to be an asset. Honestly, Embiid isn't a "between the ears" guy either. Maybe the secret is to get a bunch of talented doofuses together and that's the key to success...?

Trey Murphy III would be a fantastic addition to the Sixers.

KJM, McCain, Council, and a 1st for Moody and Kuminga would also be a good trade IMO.

I don't really envision a team willingly operating over the second apron. The Suns mostly got into that pickle for the moves they made before the second apron was ever a reality. I would be shocked if the Sixers ever operated above it. I find these rumors not too believable.

I would agree with you, but this quote from Morey's latest appearance on RTRS makes me think it is possible. If they were willing to do it earlier in the offseason, why not now?

Leverage. If teams know Morey is capped at the second apron, teams with players with controllable contracts that keep them under will extract an even more onerous price for those players. Morey has to "lie" at this point suggesting ownership will pay.

I think this bluff will be called by good GMs anyways but he has to try to paint a picture of "who cares about aprons?".
