That came out of nowhere. Certainly didn't expect the Knicks to swing that big for a center.

Either Randle has a lot more value than RealGM tend to think or KAT was far more available.

Sorry Minny fans, I don't think this is something the fans wanted.

if Randle is healthy, Minny is probably a better team. On value this seems bad, but in terms of roster construction, Minny is better.

But the Knicks are too.

Makes sense for both--again assuming Randle is healthy and you have a Knicks fan confidence that Randle's disastrous playoff performances can be explained away.

This is kinda sad for Donte. Good for the Knicks, and strange for Minnesota. Both Julius and Rudy can be FAs next offseason, maybe they have team friendly extensions already queued up for one or both.

2025 first round draft pick to New York
Detroit's 1st round pick to New York protected for selections 1-13 in 2025, 1-11 in 2026 and 1-9 in 2027;
if Detroit has not conveyed a 1st round pick to New York by 2027, then Detroit will instead convey its 2027 2nd round pick

Hate it. Traded the most fitting modern big man for the most awkward fitting big man. On top of pairing Randle with Gobert?

1. I am sad for KAT, he legitimately wanted to be in Minnesota for the rest of his career. Really hard to see him go, after all of his loyalty to the franchise.
2. I am glad that he is heading to New York to be closer to family. He's a great person, I hope he kills it over there.
3. Do not like him being stuck with Thibs again. Dude sucks and has no idea how to use KAT (he's excellent in switch/stunt action, horrible in drop coverage).
4. Minnesota's cap situation was clearly untenable long-term. This helps mitigate that.
5. Obviously not thrilled about the package, would have hoped for more than one first.

Reunites KAT with Thibs, who hung him out to dry over Jimmy.

I may be on an island but I hate it for NY. They seem a lot easier to beat with Kat and no DDV. Not sure how this trade makes them better in the playoffs either.

Ant and Randle will fit together really well too. Randle isn’t a perfect player but Ant will enjoy playing with someone with a little dog in him.
