Re: Shams: KAT to the Knicks
Donte is a big piece to lose but the Knicks don't have to worry about the 5 anymore.
Right now that team has zero depth really for the playoffs, maybe just enough to get through a season with no serious injuries though.
Jalen and KAT makes for a pretty dynamic 1-2 punch though.

Re: Shams: KAT to the Knicks
If they stay Healthy Knicks are right up there as favorites to make the finals....Brunson in his prime, you have 2 of the best 3 + D players in the league with OG/Bridges, Now you add a dynamic big man like KAT to that who can also be a stretch Big for you....Robinson if healthy is one of the best rim protectors....But yeah with this group health will be the factor...

Re: Shams: KAT to the Knicks
Ok I'm now seeing that NY have to add in a FRP via Det, yikes. I'm not sure how I feel about this now. Donte was huge for them last year and a great glue piece. Det's pick will obviously be huge. All for a constantly injured KAT...

They had to use the Randle salary by the deadline, had no choice. KAT - as overpaid as he is - is a really good get for an expiring floor raiser that really doesn't belong on any modern contender...

Re: Shams: KAT to the Knicks
Knicks are going to need some breakouts like they did last year in Hart and Hartenstien to fill out their bench. Robinson is already down with injury till the new years at the earliest, and their bench is pretty gutted now, and I dont know if they will be able to sustain past injurys which is bound to happen with the injury history their guys have. And we all know Precious is going to fall back to earth just like he did in Toronto after his 1 good year. Will be interesting to watch, its all in for sure.

This trade needs a third team; can we do it and is it worth it?

Re: Shams: KAT to the Knicks
People are forgetting how bad KAT got in foul trouble during the playoffs.
Plus with no Gobert to clean up his messes its not going to look good in New York. Plus that fanbase is ruthless.
The Knicks will hate him. Especially if he can't be relied upon in crunch time.

They won't have to rely on Kat as much in NY. They have their star in Brunson. Also they have the best defensive wing duo in the league in OG and Mikal.Risk101 wrote:People are forgetting how bad KAT got in foul trouble during the playoffs.

Damn to think this all started when they acquired Brunson in free agency. He was there for the taking at a very reasonable cost.

He won't be relied on to be the primary second scorer like he was on the Wolves though. That's a big difference.

Good move for the Knicks. They needed to get a bit bigger at the 5 given how injury prone Mitch is. They did lose a bit of their identity by trading Donte but it didn’t matter last year when the Celtics traded Smart. Knicks are a better team today than they were yesterday.

Hornets are the third team.

With Donte signed for a couple years I’m guessing NAW is basically done in minny

It pains me to say Leon Rose doesn't miss. His floor spacing is perfect for that team and he can be covered by OG and company on D.

This is exactly it. 4 years on Towns. 2 years on Randle. The ramifications of the Gobert trade emerge.

Re: Shams: KAT to the Knicks
Big question here is if Detroit ever sends the late lotto first that's in the deal. They will be a lotto team this year barring a miracle, top 11 protected next year seems unlikely to convey too, but could they get there in 2026-2027 when it's top 9 protected? Minnesota needs that pick; Gobert is 32, so that's their best route to a replacement - pick would convey when he's 34 or 35 and probably looking solidly washed - in the draft is gonna be necessary.
For the Knicks, I guess it probably makes sense. Ultimately they don't have a team that screams even 2x title winners, so bring aggressive is probably correct, and maybe they sneak one now that they can go 5 out (Should help Brunson on O obviously and Hart too, maybe less so the others since OG and Bridges aren't great at driving for very different reasons). They could have probably instead moved DeVincenzo and the pick for a decent starting 5 but not one who can space the floor. I don't really believe in Randle and I guess they don't either.
For the Raptors, big implication is that Alexander-Walker and DDV play similar roles and NAW is a free agent after this year. We just drafted 2 straight 2-guards, though this draft was so bad that Walter might just be evaluated as an early 2nd rounder who probably never makes it as a rotation fixture. So maybe NAW comes home, would be a good fit in that we could use a solid perimeter 2 guard, as long as we end up with a C or SF in the upcoming draft.

Where's the D?
