Seems like an awfully light return for the T-Wolves.

Minnesota was looking to dump Towns’ salary while remaining competitive. They likely let Randle walk after this season, or hope he picks up his option.

Divo is the beast in the trade from a playoff perspective. Towns is soft and a huge risk in MSG. Knicks should not have thrown the pick in.

Hate this for the Knicks. KAT is soft and okay with being a career loser. Not a good match for the NYC crowd.

Very good move by the Twolves imo. They got tougher and Naz Reid is ready for a bigger role.

I was a bit shocked its only one first rounder. Pretty weird trade, especially if Randle walks after this Season.

KAT is one of the best offensive forces in NBA, probably the second best when it comes to bigs. And him going to the Knicks clearly shows that he is not a career loser nor he doesn't wanna be.

It isn’t a steal if you look at how good DiVincenzo is. But Towns is a great player and the Knicks are legit contenders now.

he did not chose to go to the knicks. in fact, reports are out that Towns' camp is shocked as much as we are.

Randle is on a $28.9 contract this season

Strange... I was pretty sure the league minimum for someone with Randle's years of experience was around $3 million, but if he can make it work with making just $28.90 this year, more power to him!

So the HC the Knicks have been most successful with in recent memory, who was just re-signed to an extension, had no input on this trade and is acquiring a player he doesn’t like?

The Wolves got salary relief, Randle being up after this year and Kat being max or close to it for the next 3 or 4 years. They can flip Randle at the deadline (I think - not sure the timing) or resign him or sign and trade/let him walk. Randle isn't KAT, but he's a good player so he can help them compete this year too.

DDV is a 3-point shooter they coveted, and the pick is what it is, a throw in. It might turn into a 2nd rounder, or, maybe Detroit wins some in 2026 and it turns into a 10-16 pick, give or take.

But mostly I think they did it to cut salary and keep the core that they could with a couple players they plan to resign next year.

Knicks reasons for doing the trade were obvious. They think they have a better shot at winning a title with KAT than with Randle & DDV.

The return is light but the salary relief Mini wanted is a big part of that.

As a Knicks fan, I'm more of a wait and see than a "yeah we got a star". We already got the 2nd offensive option with Bridges in that trade a few months earlier. Now Kat is the 2nd option and Bridges the 3rd . . . or something. We lose some toughness and grit. Randle was a physical player, and Kat's big, but he's less physical. Granted he brings an offensive arsenal that Randle thought he had, but really didn't.

Knicks have a new roster, we have to see how it gels. On paper it's interesting.

C: Kat/Mitch (when he returns)
PF: will Precious start? Will they slide OGA up to PF
SF: OGA
SG: Bridges
PG: Brunson

Bench, Josh Hart, McBride, a couple of PGs. Sims. Morris probably makes the team now. They could use another big for depth, especially without Mitch for a few months.

I don't know, but there's a lot of talent there. It'll be a fun team to watch.
Go Knicks!! Go Mets!!

As for the Jets . . . just keep it entertaining.

I would slide KAT to the 4 when Mitch is ready and then just slide back to the 5 whenever Mitch is on the bench.

4 spot will be interesting to watch throughout the season. Agree that the Morris signing has more weight now. Hope he can stay healthy because he's a good fit IMO.

I think that they all just did Randle a favor with this trade because he'll 100% take this as motivation heading up to his next contract. Not the first rodeo for him. It will be interesting to see how he fits with the wolves.

Um. Is KAT even better than Julius Randle? Doesn't that leave a gaping hole in our bench production?

Yeah, but he doesn't produce nearly as much as Randle, offensively.

We basically traded: 39 PPG (Randle + Donte) for 22PPG

I don't see how the Knicks get better. Would have made more sense to trade Mitch Robinson.
