Breaking: KAT to the Knicks

Donte wanting out feel like a plot twist we totally missed, but we should have seen it coming all along.

Donte wants to get touches, make buckets, and more money down the line. He has 3 years to get his value up so the next time he is a free agent, he can score one big contract.

Playing with the Nova boys, Randle (or KAT), and OG meant that he was gonna be lucky to score even 9 ppg.

His last 50 regular season games, Donte averaged over 19 ppg his last on 44/39/77 shooting splits on just under 16 shot attempts per game.

Why would Donte give that up just to share the spotlight with the Nova boys? For the feel good story?

Donte knew the politics. He was never gonna be on even footing with Brunson, Hart, and Bridges. He is getting out of their shadow.

Maybe Donte feels he has no shot at an allstar selection or spot on Team USA playing with those guys.

At this point in his career, I think Donte values individual accolades more than an NBA Championship. If he stays relatively healthy in his career, he can be a role player later on a contending squad

Right now is not the time for Donte to be a role player.

He’ll be coming off the bench in Minnesota as Anthony Edwards’ backup

Edwards plays SF sometimes. He will play minutes alongside him I'm sure.

KAT and OG are huge injury liabilities. Together they will make over 90 million a year for the next four years. We can’t back them up with reliable bigs since we have no cap flexibility nor enough draft picks or youth. We turned two high minute rotation players to one who as I said can’t rely on to survive a whole season. In the process, we managed to downgrade our defense if that was even possible, downgrade our offense as we lost two creators and gained none. Despite the good looking three point shooting, I believe we downgraded our shooting as well with the loss of DDV. This is a massive loss. Anyone who thinks this team is better than last year, I have bad news for you.

Randle is apparently 22nd percentile in defense, KAT is 82nd.. so KAT is better.

Randle wanted to get paid. Donte wanted out cuz he didn’t want to sacrifice for a reduced role (when everyone’s healthy). So now all disappointment in Donte being included is gone. He wasn’t with the culture and didn’t put the team before himself.

Brunson made the ultimate sacrifice monetarily. Donte didn’t get the memo on sacrifice. Randle likely didn’t either. Front office did what they had to do and got the best possible return.

Not to question Greenies 200 follower twiter sources but do we have anyone of clout confirming these disgruntled donte claims?

My feelings are still the same tbh. Not a big fan of KAT but can’t deny his talent. He has games where he looks unstoppable when he plays like a big man. So I see the upside. But we gotta play him next to Mitch for this to work and he has to learn how to move his feet. It’s a big gamble we’re taking but I see the vision. And it’s better than trading Randle for 2nd round picks and Batum that people suggested us to do.

We def could have played hard ball with Randle cuz nobody has cap space next year but we all know how grumpy Randle can be when he’s not happy. Better to get in front of a problem than be behind on it.

Donte got his ring with the bucks right? Maybe that’s why he wasn’t trying to buy into this as much as everyone else? I get not wanting your role reduced but we just know that OG is gonna miss like 20+ games and there was gonna be plenty of time for him to get a lot of minutes. Maybe see what the team looks like first before panicking about your role.

He can score in all 3 areas, thats what makes him deadly. He's a less iso-heavy, more spot up shooting, better shooting, Randle.

And his rebounding numbers have been down since Gobert came, I expect that to go up now again to where he used to be.

Defensively its basically a wash, but a lot of stats show KAT is a touch better, and he protects the paint a little better as well.

Overall, I think KAT is a better player, not majorly, but the fit is 10x better than Randle was because Randle was very iso heavy where as KAT fits and flows in the offense, and now when JB kicks it out to KAT instead of Randle its more likely going in.

Mitch has to be traded for an impact player. So pissed at losing Donte but it would have been hard for him to get minutes.

It's not hard to imagine donte not loving coming off the bench. He did it in nova but he has to believe he's a starter especially after how he shot the 3 last year. He would have had an extremely reduced role and always seemed like someone that wanted to carve out his own path in NBA. Certainly he enjoyed last year but he's obviously not as close as Hart Brunson and Mikal seem to be.

I don't think they make this trade without getting a feeling Donte wasn't thrilled with a bench role.

Begley said Knicks and t wolves have been talking Randle for KAT all summer. It was until recently that Knicks involved Donte that it got to finish line so they were certainly tried to keep him out of deal but something had to change.

Yeah I think so too. I said back when Grimes got traded for Bojan that all the available cap slots were ripe for a KAT for Randle + filler trade and it actually happened. I didn't think it was happening after the Mikal trade though

Celtics traded smart to get KP and it helped them tremendously. This is going to help spacing so much. Donte part is killing me. Not another year wondering who going to come off bench.

This was a very positive video, showing a strong preference for KAT over JR on defense and showing him as a better fit for our offence, although he actually says JR is better offensively. I'd like to hope he's right. Leon has accomplished wonders, so I'm not going to let my sadness over losing DiVo ruin my appreciation of this deal.

In what world is Randle Better than Towns? Kat scoring is down bc he’s being a team player stop the cap.

Yeah I mean it's all conjecture but Donte has always been a fierce competitor and all friendships aside, if i had to guess, he probably didn't want to play a reduced role.

It's not like he got traded to some trash team either, he should be a solid piece for the Wolves.
