There may be some truth in those rumors though. I'm sure Donte thought, after the second half of the season and that playoff run, that he'd be the starting 2 and have 30 mins locked in. Then the FO went and got his replacement. If I was him, I wouldn't be too happy about that neither. And unlike Jalen, the FO probably didn't call Donte to ask what he thought of the trade before they did it lol.

Re: Breaking: KAT to the Knicks
All in all, I'm in favor of the trade.
However, I have some questions:
(1) So reading Kieta Bates-Diop is in the deal, headed to Minnesota. This part sucks because I think this man could've helped us. Would've been a nice 2-way SF/PF in his prime I was looking forward to having as a part of our bench. Especially hurts losing him after trading for Randle. PF depth is very thin now.
(2) I've listened to Bobby Marks' comments on the trade. He's saying that we're going to have to choose between Shamet and Marcus Morris -- that we'll only be able to offer one of them a vet minimum deal.. I mean WTF is that ****??? These new salary rules totally suck. I mean we really could use both of these guys now to bolster the bench/team depth.
If that's true and we have to chose between Shamet and Morris on who to give a vet minimum contract to, who should it be?? Very tough decision now.
I wonder if there's any way to circumvent this somehow... Would either guy accept a deal lower than the vet minimum? I'm not even sure the player's union/new CBA would allow them to take less.

“Donte [DiVincenzo] was really unhappy, and [the Knicks] thought it could be a problem. They also believe that Landry Shamet can provide some quality bench guard minutes,” an anonymous source close to the situation told Sportscasting.
To many, this may seem like a major shock. Personally, I thought DiVincenzo, Jalen Brunson, Josh Hart, and Mikal Bridges all loved the idea of playing together. But according to this source, DiVincenzo didn’t necessarily feel this way.
“He did not. DiVincenzo’s not into the Nova thing,” the source said.

Arrivederci Donte, enjoy the waters of Lake Minnetonka.
Yeah I don't really get the pearl clutching over losing donte. He had a few great games and moments in the playoffs. But he was very inconsistent. He was also replaced by mikal. His bench mins this year will be replaced by deuce who is on a much better deal and plays a lot better defense.
He was cool, but being upset about losing your starting spot to your friend, only to be traded to a team with a young superstar at your position is a beautiful final touch. He could have kept quiet and won a title here, instead he's gonna be shoveling 9 feet of snow in 3 months just to lose in the first round. Good riddance.

guess freaking what. what did we expect? randle and donte are loved by the team and thibs.
this could backfire on leon. doomer scenario would be mitch is out of shape and cant play much, og getting hurt, KAT doesnt feel like busting his butt off, we are 7th seed in february and thibs reisgns or gets fired. some random ass coach gets hired, that the teams is not digging and we are done being close to contention.
in reality we overachieved the last couple years. mainly because thibs, ermergance of JB and chemistry. this was a cutthroat baller move. high risk and high reward
Ya very doomed take but backed up with no evidence, we were one of the best teams with tons of injuries…. Come back with two huge upgrades, bridges great wing defenders and a solid 3 point shooter and KAT all nba center great stretch big man and shot blocker replacing hartenstein

Can't blame Donte. If he wasn't going to be our starting 2, then it would have been a waste for both parties. Like all our guys he played a lot of near 40 min games down the stretch for us. You don't cut that in half for a guy who did what he did last year.

Re: Breaking: KAT to the Knicks
I don't get this "can only keep one of Morris or Shamet" business that keeps getting repeated.
Players under contract/depth
Brunson/Payne/Kolek
Bridges/Deuce
OG/Hart/Dadiet
KAT/Precious
Mitch/Sims
That's 12 players
Two way contracts:
McCullars
Hawkpootie
Toppin
Camp Invites prior to trade/Exhibit 9/10 guys
Okeke
Shamet
Morris
What am I missing? They could keep all 3 of the invites, if they wanted to, especially if Toppin etc doesn't outplay them in preseason and get converted.

I agree the Donte narrative may be overblown. However, I was surprised at something Brunson said this past week when he and Josh Hart were on The Seth Myers Show.
Seth asked if the other players feel left out when all the NoVa guys hang out together. Jalen replied: "Well, we ALL don't hang out together."
That comment combined with the fact Donte was rarely part of The Roommates Show podcast had me wondering...

DVo was good when given 40 minutes. When given bench minutes he was not.
Deuce was solid both ways but plays better defense.
Lastly, it’s looking like DVo was not totally happy here, strange if true.
Deuce probably will come off the bench, where he is superior and cheaper.
I wanted DVo here, but (oddly) the Mikal trade changed things.
To be honest I didn't really see where Duce was getting minutes before this trade. Since we couldn't go long stretches with Randle at the 4 and the organization views Duce as more of a 2 than a point guard, he seemed like he was going to be the guy to get his minutes cut. Now, Duce has a real role on this team.
I think the smart thing to do is to bring Hart off the bench, even though he is likely in the finishing 5 with Brunson, Towns, Bridges, and Anunoby. Frankly, I kind of like Duce in the SG slot.
Brunson-Duce-Bridges-Anunoby-Towns
I think Bridges/Anunoby are better at the 3/4 than the 2/3 and the point of attack and wing defense offsets not having a true rim protector. Plus there is a little more ball handling and shooting in this lineup.
The bench is a concern for sure. I think Kolek and Payne battle it out for the 15 or so MPG that Brunson rests. Hart will get 33-35 MPG as a Swiss army knife between the 3 wing positions. To start the season Precious should get 25 or so MPG, I would assume 15 as the backup big and 10 next to Towns.
Brunson (33)/ Kolek or Payne (15)
McBride (28)/Hart (20)
Bridges (35)/Hart (13)
Anunoby (32)/ Precious (10)
Towns (33)/ Precious (15)
In this breakdown, there are about 6 open minutes which I'm putting at PF (although with Hart it's interchangeable) which could expand by cutting some Duce and/or Precious minutes. I think it will be an open competition between Morris, Shamet and Dadiet for that role as the 9th man. Come playoff time, this 9th man isn't in the rotation. And once Mitch gets back, he takes Precious role - where he could be very valuable in a limited bench role.
The Knicks are actually set up nicely to absorb the injury woes of Mitch. But unless Dadiet develops into a rotation piece, losing OG for an extended period of time is going to be a real issue.
Deuce has a good role now. Doubt it is as a starter because he probably has less ability to guard the 3 than Hart. But in small ball lineups? Yes. He will be the Identity of the bench. Like when IQ stepped up. Exciting here.
Maybe Bridges and OG are better at the 3 and 4, but that would increase OG’s injuies imo. Thibs might not care here though. I’d prefer them at the 2 and 3. But I get we’d need e.g. Kessler at the 5 then.
Yeah, bench is weaker but the unknown in Dadiet and the new guys might bring us a wild card, cough DVo cough.
Really curious w Thibs rotations, style, etc and how we play after a couple months of gelling.
Fun time. Need to change my handle now.
