I don't think it's a bad bench. It's not a great bench, it's just ok.

Also, Bates-Diop was traded and Morris and Shamet were cut, so this guy is posting nonsense anyway.

Not sure if Knicks can go back and re-sign Morris and Shamet after cutting them.

No idea on the rules around those -9/-10 training camp contracts.

You really need 8 playoff guys and 2 serviceable regular season guys

We have 7 playoff guys - Brunson, Towns, Bridges, Anunoby, Hart, Mitch, Duce

I would put Precious as one of the regular season guys, and between Kolek, Payne and Shamet your fine with the 2nd slot

We are really one rotation piece short, which might not happen until next trade deadline (2026) when they use Jericho Sims bird rights to create a human TPE as a 2nd apron team.

I need a quick update on the Detroit pick fams.

is there any actual value in it? I'm at page 40 so far and have read conflicting posts.

I think no restrospective of our foundational players would be complete without mentioning the one player who made Thibs the man Knicks fans loved to hate: Shelfish Elf.

Elf ran our team (into the ground), defended (only against being subbed out), and yet was given the keys to the kingdom. There has never been anyone else who played the point the way he played that position. Thank goodness!

Great trade especially with Mitch out for some time.
Randle, Divo & pseudo 1st for top 3 center.. how can you argue with that?
Losing Divo hurts a little but Deuce will more than make it up.
Thibs will make Kat play defense like IHart did.
I think we have the best starting 5 in the league.
We will be competing for a chip next 3~4 years.
Cannot wait till season begins.
Let's enjoy the ride.

by all accounts not really. it’s likely to never convey and turn in to second rounders

It depends if you think Detroit can get out of the top 10 of the draft in a few years. They’re def trying to be better by bringing in Tobias and trading for THJR. Theres def a better chance of this pick conveying than the Washington one we have. I wouldn’t be shocked if they ended up with a late lottery pick eventually.

mcbride is your top scorer off the bench. precious is kind of a fringe nba player if we're being honest. i don't know. the starters are gonna all have to play a lot.

Precious is more than a fringe NBA player. That's a weird comment. Mitch is barely an NBA player because he barely available to play. :o

In reality, last year's team lost DDV but, added Bridges. They lost Randle and added KAT. Mitch is the last issue the team has. He's unavailable as per the norm but, still on the roster. We didn't lose much in terms of depth. Is Bridges better than DDV? Is KAT better than Randle? If so...we improved the team.

I think they kept Shamet, but had to release Morris.

We have Sims, he can shoot 3s now as well

Only reasons Knicks are thinking of moving Mitch is that they feel they are in a chip window and would rather get a more reliable C to share the rotation with KAT OR they want another stretch 5/more versatile 5 to pair with KAT in the rotation.

Otherwise, they'd just wait for Mitch. And maybe they do and the rumors are ones that predate the KAT trade.

Other thought.

I get that teams have drafted players so they have cheap young talent to develop, to make internal gains, and that the Knicks are lacking picks going into the future, so I could be wrong with the upcoming statement:

It seems strange the Knicks are carrying TWO rookies, both eating up 15 man roster spots AND crucial salary slots, especially as they look to backfill backup PF and SG in the wake of trading Randle/Donte.

I think that IF Mitch gets traded, one of them is traded also.

I wonder if the New Orleans rumors are leaks to get Ainge moving on a Mitch/Kolek for Kessler/Clarkson deal.

I'd be shocked if Ainge ever makes a trade with Kessler and not receives a draft pick as part of the deal.

That Detroit #1 that may or may not convey. It's either that or the Washington one. Yes, I know that makes a difference but I caught myself as maybe the Detroit one went to the Nets.

The Detroit first goes to Minnesota in this deal. but no word yet on what Charlotte gets from us. My guess is multiple seconds.

I wonder if Marcus Morris can be resigned. I see a hole at backup SF now that Hart is in the starting lineup. You also cant depend on OG to stay healthy all year

2025 first round draft pick from Detroit
Detroit's 1st round pick to New York protected for selections 1-13 in 2025, 1-11 in 2026 and 1-9 in 2027; if Detroit has not conveyed a 1st round pick to New York by 2027, then Detroit will instead convey its 2027 2nd round pick to New York (via Houston to Oklahoma City) [Detroit-Houston, 11/24/2020; Houston-Oklahoma City, 7/30/2021; New York-Oklahoma City, 6/23/2022]

My biggest issue with this trade is we saw how
impt depth is playing the pacers. After the Bridges trade, we had a good as bench as anyone with Hart and Divo coming of the bench (add in Miles, Precious, Payne, Shamet/Morris). This also was going to allow the starters to get alot of rest.

Now the starters are going to be forced to play big minutes. We also have to add a bench piece.

People was like yeah Randle at the 5 we good. Now have defensive questions. Do yall understand Kat is 3x the defender Randle is? 10x more efficient than Randle? Give me a break. I know losing Raju was hard but don’t act like this wasn’t a no brainer. ESP with Randle contract and Donte wanting minutes.
