Does Leon have something in mind is the question? Do they keep Mitchell? Cause while I think sliding KAT to PF is a real move, the bench could use some help. Honestly they have enough bench pieces that in general you got to assume they are going to consolidate them into another piece.

They could do something small but significant at the trade deadline to bolster the bench in preparation for the playoffs. That’s certainly something that remains to be seen.

We could use a PF now, which is nice in a way. But McBride and Mitch also have important roles here now.

I don’t think they announced what picks are going to charlotte as part of this deal, but my assumption is it will be either 3-5 2nd rd picks or the Washington picks. Cupboard is starting to get bare.

we;re done trading picks.

the core is set

brunson - Mikal - hart - og - kat

That should be it really. Deuce and Mitch of the bench.

As it stands now, the trade will leave us without enough money to fill out the roster.

That means Mitch is as good as gone so we can free up salary for at least 2 vet mins.

Chalotte just lost Mark Williams again so it won't be Richards. Grant Williams, on the other hand, isn't a fit for them. He makes less than Mitch and that swap woukd be enough to cover the rest of the Towns deal:

Needed - ~$6.1M
S&T Jeffries (early bird) ~$4.8M
Mitch $14.3M
Grant Williams $13.1M

Knicks will have $4.8M in apron space remaining

That's replacing one injury prone guy with another

More realistic trades

Add in Pac or some seconds, but the basic idea is a center that can play next to KAT or come off the bench.

There's also an unrealistic trade that fits Thibs criteria of getting a bench scorer, but I don't know how likely it is. We'd have to wait till October 15th, but it would be

Mitch
Payne
Pacome

For

Kessler
Clarkson

The reason I don't think it's all that likely to happen is because Kessler is a starting level center, and he's got an extension coming up soon. If I had to guess he's the guy the Pelicans are targeting too. But that would be right up Tommy boy's aisle since we have always sought a bench scorer, which is a theme for him.

That trade would make sense for both teams. They want a center to compete now, and Mitch lets them compete while they can see if their rookie can be the long term replacement. Plus Ingram and Herb Jones is ahead of him on the depth chart.

Sorry why do we need to trade Mitch as well? Are we completely giving up on any chance against Milwaukee/Boston/Philly front court? I get that Mitch is injury prone but he is our only chance to have a shot against the bigs.

If Mitch has this kind of value I would try to make this a 3 team trade and grab Colby White from the Bulls. Add a little more ball handling/playmaking.

Could also see grabbing Dysuno from the Bulls and using the 7mm in savings (plus Precious salary) to grab another C

Ainge wants multiple first rounders for Kessler and James Edward who used to write about the Pistons said we gotta give up Mitch and Deuce and a 1st rounder for Stewart.

Let’s do the nick Richards trade

They'd have to peel him off Dadiet and Sims after every game. Best to avoid this issue.

Is that his type

Anyhow let’s see what Leon does. I can see them moving Mitch for someone because the bench could use a little more help. It’s also notable they didn’t keep Mook, so in theory another forward might be the goal.

Maybe Mook is back after (if?) he clears waivers?

Maybe Mook is back after (if?) he clears waivers?

Mook was on an Exhibit 9 contract. And as the CBAFAQ says:

"A summer contract is typically used for training camp invitees, because the player's salary is not included in team salary until the first day of the regular season. In other words, it is a "make-good" contract -- the player must make the team's opening day roster in order to receive his salary and for his contract to be included in team salary.

If Exhibit 9 is used, the contract must be for one season at the minimum salary, with no bonuses of any kind."

So perhaps the Knicks will claim Mook and either sign him to something other than the minimum or sign and trade him, eg, for more than the minimum, maybe as part of the KAT deal. (fwiw, I'm not at all clear how that would work with the second apron.)

I don’t think the Kessler extension is an issue. The Knicks are going to be a 2nd apron team for the next 3 seasons.

The bigger issue is going 3 for 2, which would put the Knicks in a position where they wouldn’t have enough room under the 2nd apron to round out the roster

But any opportunity to flip Mitch for Kessler would be a home run in my book. Using the savings to land another guard also makes a ton of sense.

How about something like this:
NYK: Walker Kessler, Ayo Dosumno
UTA: Mitchell Robinson, Pacome Dadiet
CHI: Protected WAS 1st

NY lengthens the rotation and gets more durable. Utah - in theory - likes Dadiet as a prospect and hopes to flip Robinson at the deadline. Chi moves towards a rebuild.

Brunson-Dusunmo-Bridges-Anunoby-Towns
Kolek(Payne)-McBride-Hart-Kessler

Precious and Shamet for depth

That’s a 9 man playoff rotation
