Mutombo and Kris Kristofferson on the same day? And Monica Bellucci is also 60 today. Sad day indeed.

Very sad! Mutombo was an absolute legend on and off the court. Him hugging the ball after beating the Sonics as the 8th seed is one of the most iconic moments in NBA history. RIP!

Re: Dikembe Mutombo passed away
I don't think "good" or "great" describes Dikembe Mutombo well enough as a person. He was a Hall of Fame basketball player, giving the NBA community one of it's most enduring images of all time when The Nuggets upset the Sonics, and yet he was 1000x the person off the court. If you didn't get a chance to see Mutombo play, it's unlikely you know what he's done with his time off the court since retirement, and what he's done with almost every last dollar he made in the NBA. To put it bluntly and in the appropriate formatting:
He might be the greatest athlete philanthropist/humantitarian in professional sports history.
His legacy is jaw-dropping, and he had a positive effect on MILLIONS of lives around the world due to his efforts to provide infrastructure, healthcare, and education to those that did not have it at even the most basic level, often using his own money to get projects off the ground so people could have what they needed. This isn't someone who used his celebrity to brighten days or being attention in the community on his off days or in the offseason, this is a man who over the decades quite literally prevented millions of people from suffering or dying by giving them water, food, medicine, shelter, and education.
To the sports world this is a hall of famer, a legend, a funny voice, an iconic finger wag, a meme. In the real world he was a literal savior. An absolute titan.
